GNS 530 problem in V35 Bonanza MSFS 2024

Spent the last two days trying to find why the GNS 530 Direct to buttonn brings up the proper screen, but entering a destination does nothing. I went so far as to uninstall MSFS (PC) and re-install wuth same result. Notice that when starting a flight, it does not go through the “acquiring” process. Empty community folder. I am at my wit’s end! Any ideas?

The problem here is that the GNS in the V35B is the old Asobo GNS and not the current Working Title GNS.

I banged on and on and on about this issue since it arose in 2020 and here we are still dealing with this implementation problem.

For the uninformed, the Asobo GNS is not full-featured and, since I have not bothered to test it, I do not know how well it works in 2024. So much has changed with the navdata provider and implementation that I don’t know if this was even accounted for.

Frankly, it is ridiculous that “they” sold us the Aviator Edition of the sim with several aircraft not even having been brought up to current 2020 standards.

Thank you so much for that explanation! At least it is not me. Is there a way to install the Working Title GNS in the V35B? I fly this plane a lot (my dad owned one).

See related report: All Carenado aircraft transferred to MSFS2024 have non functional GNS530

It does not appear to be something we can do easily.

In 2020, there was an optional Marketplace add-on that would enable the WT version for aircraft not natively equipped. We also could edit the panel.cfg file and change a line of code to enable the WT version, too.

I know the intention was to disable elements of the DRM for the included aircraft. I don’t know if this also includes the Aviator Edition aircraft, too. I also don’t know if we’d need to have the ability to download the aircraft vs. stream it to be able to do any editing of files.

Give me some time to see what I can learn poking around.

What was annoying in 2020, is enabling the WT GNS would alter the autopilot’s behavior in an unfavorable way. You were either stuck with the Asobo GNS and a basically correct autopilot or the more desirable WT GNS and a semi-screwy autopilot. I’m pretty sure the same will happen if we figure out how to get the WT version working in 2024.

It’s a favorite of mine, too, so I have a vested interest in seeing it updated to current 2024 specs.

EDIT:

I just looked through:
…\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\StreamedPackages\microsoft-aircraft-v35-bonanza directory and all the files are definitely encrypted via DRM.

It looks like we are going to have to wait and/or lobby for change.

Hi Demented Corn. Thank you very much for linking this topic to my bug report. It’s really good to know that these are getting attention. Much appreciated. S!
