GPS navigation no longer works reliably!

Have done a lot of testing, no Community Mods, updated in my Content Manager, reinstalled Garmin etc etc Flight plans setup at the MSFS menu just don’t seem to work reliably anymore. The GPS purple line is broken in places on the Nav Map and sometimes does not show up at all. The planes rarely follow it accurately. The Garmin GPS goes into “SUSP” mode randomly… weird…
Once in a while it all works, but for the last 4-5 months it has just malfunctioned.

Any help / suggestions appreciated?

Have you installed the free updates from Working Tittle?
They can be found the MarketPlace.

I believe I have done that… I’ll double check… thanks.

Confirmed… I have the latest version of that. It’s strange because this flight plan function worked perfectly up until about 4-5 months ago, maybe an update killed it?

Perhaps you’re not familiar with the functionality of the new GPS systems? They are significantly different from the old default systems. But they are working as intended.

If your install is current, then you’d be better asking in one or all of the pinned topics here,
there one for each Garmin version.

Well the issue is it worked perfectly when setting up a plan from the menu, now it does not work about 80% of the time?

Well the thing is, it works perfectly fine for me once set up properly.

I’m not saying that it is currently working the way it used to. I’m saying it is working differently from the way it used to, but this is intentional.

If it does not work for you 80% of the time, perhaps you can watch a video about what you need to do differently now.

The GPS systems in the sim have been updated significantly and are now much more accurate to their real world counterparts. Things like discontinuities, vectors legs, SUSP, and the like are intentional functionality that you would find in the real units and work likewise.

There are a number of really good videos on the new units in YouTube; I would recommend the ever high quality Kip On The Ground, who covers just about every aspect of the Garmin units.

Hasn’t work for me since 1.33.8.0. Have reloaded this sim 3 times now since 1.33.8.0 ti virgin state and it’s garbage.

It would help if we could see screenshots or video showing exactly what you’re talking about. I’m with the others that it’s likely the more realistic updates that you’re encountering, but that’s just speculation without seeing some examples of the problem.

When it was working, after entering origin and destination airports and selecting an approach in the Sim menus, the plane loads and the VFR map shows, and you would see the complete route - end to end in the purple GPS line. And of course once the Autopilot and NAV buttons were hit the plane would fly the correct course.

Now I see broken GPS lines, sections missing, mostly it will show the course out from the takeoff airport, then the line will stop and only appear again somewhere before the destination airport. The line can appear in white (not the purple color). Often times the Autopilot will not follow any GPS line correctly in this state. It’s as if the GPS has received a different course to follow or is confused. Hope that sort of makes sense.

The aircraft will not automatically follow the GPS course just by pressing the button. You will often need to initally set a course manually to intercept the purple line. Once the aircraft gets near the line, the GPS will lock on to it.

Understood… I can fly to the line but it won’t follow sometimes. Somethings busted!

As previously mentioned, you need to show a few screenshots of your PFD, nav map, “broken” flight plan display etc.

Anyone trying to help is literally working in the dark.

This is still sounding like a case of the more realistic updates, which gave me similar frustrations when first rolled out to the CJ4. Give this video I made a look, which covers the changes made to the CJ4, but would apply here as well if that’s the case. The “Dreaded Discontinuities” chapter in the video is where you’ll want to focus on, as you can see the broken and white routing lines in the VFR map and how to deal with them. This is how the plane acts in the real world, and similar changes were rolled out to other aircraft (though the steps needed to finish the routing will differ slightly depending on the aircraft being used). I’ll admit to not doing things true to life in the video, but it wasn’t meant to be 100% realistic flying.

Realistic or not, it’s not user friendly to force it on everyone and expect them to know how it should work. The integration with the World Map is another fundamentally broken system, that is critical to the sim and instead of fixing it, they’ve just let it be.

Everyone has to use the same simulator. Simulator updates have notes that come with them which explain all changes made. If you would read them, you would have known about the changes to the Garmin units. It was common knowledge that they were being improved for months and there was a long beta period you could have used to learn about what was going to happen. And I don’t know of any “broken” World Map functionality either.

This is a flight simulator, not GTA V.

Yep same here this update just down dated my entire sim experience

To narrow the problem down a bit:

  • Did you really empty your community folder completely?
  • Are only aircraft using a Garmin system affected or also airliners and the CJ4?
  • Are all aircraft affected that use a Garmin system.
  • Are all Garmin systems affected (GNS 430/530, GTN750, G1000, G3000/5000)?
  • Do you plan your flights exclusively via the world map and start directly from the runway or do you start them cold and dark from a parking position?
