Graphic Settings Location in VR

Hello Microsoft Flight Simulator Team,

In MSFS 2020, accessing graphics settings was simple, intuitive, and efficient—one click, and you were in the right place, whether flying in 2D or VR. The system was aware of the mode you were using and made adjustments straightforward.

In MSFS 2024, however, the graphics settings have become buried under multiple layers for VR users. It now takes 4-5 clicks to make changes, and there’s even a bug in one of the menus that adds further frustration. The intention behind separating VR and 2D settings may have been good, but in practice, it’s clunky and inefficient.

Graphics settings are something we tweak frequently—sometimes daily—unlike other options like control profiles, which might only change once or twice in the life of the sim. This is why I believe graphics settings should be easily accessible, just like they were in 2020.

My wish is simple: bring back the graphics settings so they can be accessed with one or two clicks, regardless of whether you’re in 2D or VR. Please streamline the experience and reduce the unnecessary confusion for users. Those of us flying in VR especially feel this pain daily.

Thank you for considering this. I hope some of your team members flying in VR can empathize with the current challenges and see the value in simplifying this process.

Best regards,
S.

Being used to FS2020, I changed 2D settings many times while in VR, not understanding why it had no effect. It was only later I found out the VR graphics settings have moved. These kind of changes I don’t understand, it was so easy and intuitive before, if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it. I also have some VR graphics options that don’t stick, or are missing until scrolling up and down and my sim crashes when changing from DLSS to TAA or vice versa in VR.

I have the feeling a lot of UI changes are just for the sake of making changes, not because there was a good reason for doing so. For example, the traffic options are now under graphics settings, no separate option for ground aircraft versus airport vehicle traffic density anymore.

Many UI options have been removed, transparency, UI / font size etc. The ATC window fills up a lot of my screen, in MSFS2020 I was able to change the UI font size and shrink the window, not anymore. When flying 700 kts through canyons, while trying not to faceplant into mountains, you get harassed with non-translucent red and green boxes with scores obstructing forward view every gate.

I have nothing good to say about the UI changes. Don’t just make changes for the sake of it, this makes absolutely no sense. I don’t wanna start about the control bindings, very little thought has gone into any of this…

Same here, I’m still banging my head about it, someone give us ONE good reason for this change.
It was Perfect as it was in 2020.

I’m with you, the fonts being too big even at the minimum size, airplanes selection now in Horizontal mode? This is gonna drive lots of people to visit a shrink for medication.
Me no entiende nada.

The ATC window is terrible, another step backwards, at least in VR.
I don’t feel VR is getting the same respect as Xbox or 2D, generally speaking.

When I launch FS2020 now, I realize that we had a pretty good thing going in there, even the VR was at such a good level. I just don’t wanna do The Groundhog Day all over again.

I can’t believe this only got 7 votes so far.
Unbelievable.

Is that because we all prefer extra click click click, instead of just the way it was in FS2020, really?

:joy: humans

The UI as a whole was not designed by someone who flies the simulation in VR, it’s flow is poor.

Agreed. It would also be really helpful if the outside world wasn’t greyed out while we are in settings, so we can instantly see the visual and performance impact of changes each time we hit apply

Hahahaha, my exacto thoughto since the 19th.

Cheers!

p.s. like the black box, did they even have a VR QA Testing group?

Good one!
I second this motion, You Honor!

This has been bugging me as well, I mean, instead of the El Gigante UI, make it a bit tinier and let us see the actual image.
-Yet another proof that Xbox comes before VR as platform here-

Cheers!

that’s because VR is 10% of the player base… we have to stick together and Vote! Dev stream bug list has “Too bright lights” at 345 votes and VR toolbar EFB and Mouse disappearing at a total combined Votes less than 345… Game breaking problems in VR vs “Too Bright lights” It’s sad frankly that you can’t play Career mode at all in VR right now.

I thought exactly the same about that Too Bright Lights, which is just airport lights.
Another one with tons of votes, helicopters bouncing something.. never had this issue myself, but ok.
Where’s the black box when we enter VR?
Where’s the mouse not clicking anything until we hit ESC and back every time?
Where’s the EFB not working when selected as window?
etc…
Yes, I agree, we must vote and tell others to vote as well.

Cheers!

I found myself changing the wrong settings again…

Why Asobo, why? I really don’t get why this change was needed…

They really did their best to create the worst UI possible:

  • No hangar anymore
  • Aircraft selection with horizontal scroll and no further info
  • Challenges having green and red boxes flashing in forward view
  • Lowest option for font size is way too big
  • No ability to resize windows (such as ATC)
  • VR graphics settings somewhere hidden
  • Traffic options under graphics
  • Totally ridiculous key binding system

Feeling the exact same pain, point by point.
Let’s hope enough people upvote to get this show on the road again.

Cheers!

Due to a busy few weeks, I only have 4 hours’ flight time in the sim so far (vs 31 hours recorded in the sim… launch week problems!), and have only tried VR once, but I was confused about the settings (or lack thereof) and decided to revisit it later… enough said. Voted

The fact there are alternative VR settings buried somewhere is a reason to try it again soon. It had looked like it was now a one-size-fits-all approach which made no sense at all.

Just look at the release notes from last night:

Supported VR Controllers 2024 Helicopters default profile
Fixed non-passable in VR “look around” step in a few trainings

And that’s all for VR.
I feel like crying today after this patch.

But hey, rejoyce!
We now have this:

  • Limited the number of passengers inside the plane on Low Settings to limit out-of-memory issues on Xbox Series S

Voted, this is simply poor UI design and something that should be changed.
