Graphics Settings resets

What happens is my graphics settings changes without my interaction. I have seen this problem on two occasions:

  1. After updating the sim to the latest version
  2. When running pre-made flights (3rd party)

The first instance might be understandable, while unfortunate. I would like to see an option to save my settings to a file, to be able to reload them again as long as this problem persists. Those settings represent quite some time of fiddling to find just the right balance for my hardware so just having them wiped leaves me with having to remember how everything was set up, or write it down somewhere. Doable but hardly a very good experience.

The second instance is more of a question. I’m currenty running through the FS Academy’s IFR training package when I noticed the clouds looked pretty awful despite having been set to ULTRA in my settings. So I checked the settings and ALOT of those, including volumetric clouds, where now set to LOW. I usually have nothing set to LOW.

Can 3rd party devs enforce graphics setting or is this just a new bug?

The settings file is called usercfg.opt. It is located here C:\Users*yourusername*\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache
You could save a copy of it and reapply it if things change. Have to say that my settings have never changed after an update.

Great to see you are working through IFR!

MULTIPLE times this has happened to me. Like other platforms, provide an ability to LOCALLY save profiles. Or, simply don’t reset settings. Writing this now as a result of a search as it has happened yet again. No update applied as I was just flying the sim yesterday with no issues.

Each day when I start up MSFS, I have to reset it from high end to medium. I have not changed anything on my computer; I only update MSFS when they have one. Does anyone have the answer to why and how to fix it?

are you guys using NVidia experience to automatically ‘tune’ the settings? If so, then turn that off.

My problem has returned. I deleted NVidia experience as MortThe2nd suggested, and it worked great. MSFS is now starting in the high-end option. I went into C:\Usersyourusername\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache CFG file and the graphics Preset is set on High. It will not allow me to change it to Medium and save it. Does anyone know a way to change it?

I am having the same problem now too with usercfg.opt, I can change and save the settings and they hold but as soon as I launch MSFS something resets the cfg to default. only thing I had changed was update the sim as per request in the sim. I never use nvidia experience and the only thing i want to change is the fringe setting because I use 3 monitors, it used to work but now just resets

MODERATOR EDIT: This post merged into this topic.

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed settings changes, presumably from updates. I noticed extreme stuttering which I never had before landing at LAX so I did a little investigation and discovered my render setting had been reset to 100% - I normally use 70% for my 3 monitor installation, each monitor being 2560x1440, and I can usually manage 30 fps minimum over the most densely packed areas. I also noticed the stuttering only over LA so far - I went back to Cleveland and no stuttering - I know, no comparison!.

One other thing, I set the land vehicles down to 25%, seemed to make a huge difference.

Last question: the rolling cache - any reason to occasionally clear it?

Nvidia Experience has done this to me several times. However, I continue to use it as I like its framerate counter more than the alternatives.

I found that my graphics settings would reset to a low/medium setting if I press X to close the window rather than ‘properly’ quitting with Quit to Desktop

Just went out to test the new Nvidia driver, noticed how rubbish everything looked; after my flight I realized my entire sim had been reset to “High End”. I do NOT have the optimize setting turned on in GFE. Why is this still happening after 2 years? It’s ridiculous.

I installed SU10 and was in the sim without any issues. This weekend I did a couple bush trips.

Today the new NVidia driver was out. I installed that. I go into MSFS and all my graphics settings and such were set to Medium (I was Ultra before the NVidia driver with a couple tweaks). Got all through with setting things back the way I wanted them, but noticed at the top it had set me to DLSS instead of TAA. I wanted TAA. So I changed that, and that whacked all my settings again.

Record what you had your graphics settings at before you install the NVidia driver update. It will save you some hassle trying to set things back.

The last three nvidia driver updates caused MSFS to reset all graphics settings for me? Everything set to low / 0 - this never happened to me before. Why is that?
