They fixed the tree’s on mine. They load up a decent ways away. Terrain doesn’t look as bad for me but you can still get the texture blur as if it hasn’t rendered properly. I’d say they took a step in the right direction as far as attempting to fix the LOD issue.
Well, trees draw distance has not been fixed at all (you can see it on screen). Distance has been just increased by tiny step…
The trees are now back to default December 2020, by fixing latitude, trees quality need to be set to ULTRA first. People that used the mod after you can have it now, trees much far and better terrain by editing CFG, FPS are not much affected on SU5 compare to SU4:
Files location, where is your MSFS installed to:
AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache
Files to Edit: UserCfg
Scroll down to\ Change to:
{Terrain
LoDFactor 5.000000
}
{ObjectsLoD
LoDFactor 5.000000 (or higher to taste ex: 10.000000 )
After saving the files, set the files as read only to avoid MSFS change it again.
Well again, any higher LoD Factor in UserCFG is not a solution. It mainly changes quality of already loaded assets, but change of important draw distance is minimal. This value hugely affects performance, even after SU V, especially when looking around (because of new scenery culling thing).
For example, with my mid range computer I have stable 40 FPS on High settings with LOD 2.0 - when looking around performance drops to 37.
With LOD 4.0 I have stable 38 FPS, which drops to 15 when looking around → unplayable.
Sorry for saying it honestly, but trees draw distance is not fixed. And also this topic is not about tree draw distance issue, it’s about low resolution of ground texture, another LOD issue.
same here, high end pc… good bandwith… bad ground textures…
Its even worse now in Sim Update 5. All settings on ultra and 110 fps in cruise but ground now looks like this from FL370
My mistake! I meant to mention I was running on (HIGH END) graphic settings before the update. I am now able to run everything on ULTRA with no real FPS issues. Yes! I do agree, the terrain render/texture is still not good at all. The tree’s are apart of objects that render in game, which is why I mentioned them. Just as buildings rendering in also effect performance. I do notice a difference in some quality at certain times, but overall, I agree it’s not fixed. In other words, we’re not getting what you seen advertised in the trailers before release. I have some pictures posted from before the update. Maybe I’ll do a side by side comparison soon.
I noticed this deterioration in quality as soon as I took off. I thought “Guys, I bought an XBox without knowing it!”
But I don’t want an Xbox, I want my MSFS for PC back.
i also din’t know my steam pc version would be swapped for a bad Xbox port
Seems more like a color/shadow downgrade.
Edit: Yes definitely. Like a layer of white transparent color covering all textures in addition to worse shadow casting/lighting
Not sure if this is to do with internet/GPU, but my trees are not looking right at all…
The sim has run nicely since the update in all other respects but not this one!
Even one of the loading images features LOD and low resolution problems. (To see in full resolution, open the image, right click on it and select “open in new tab”.)
This is after departing Stewart south following the Hudson into New York on Ultra preset, full phtogrammetry. Something is terribly wrong with this update.
But then it does this pretty stunning rendition of my hometown downtown cityscape. (Bonus Points to who can guess without looking up the POI). So, I’m baffled.
MS says no!
There’s a video (by digital foundry or so?)posted yesterday showing an interview with one guy from MS. He has been asked how they achieved the performance boost… and he confirmed, that there’re 3 ways and one of them is resolution reduction.
That’s exactly what people don’t want and they did it…
I did a flight yesterday climbing to 34000 feet. The ground textures looked good until about 24,000 feet - (the autogen buildings were still being rendered) - then it became really blurry above that altitude.
There has always been a transition between high res and low res ground textures when climbing to higher altitudes, in SU4 it happened about 22,000 feet - but in pre-SU5 versions, even the lower res textures still looked reasonably good at normal zoom levels. Now, they look awful.
If so that is very disappointing. I was under the impression that performance improvements were due to optimisations of the game engine, not simply reducing detail levels.
