Ground texture - Low resolution - Internet incorrect Bandwidth

Do you have any idea as to what the level of texture degradation is.
i.e is Terrain LOD of 200 (in SU5) now the same as LOD (100) in SU4

Something is wrong on some people’s end I’m afraid

As for me, with SU5 Hotfixed, my ground textures has never been so awesome, far better than before in fact!

Tested many times, I went as far as 40.000ft without much of a degradation! Far better than what I had with SU4 where going higher than 20 to 25.000ft would mean a noticeable loss of quality (something that annoyed me a lot back then although it wasn’t different than anybody else was experiencing)

That being said, with SU4 I was at LOD 3.000 in UserCfg.opt, now I’m pushing it to 5.000 (LOD 500 vs LOD 300 if you will). Although with 300 it was already better with SU5 vs SU4 and before.

One thing I noticed though, is that I had a lot of Mid to High RES textures constantly swapping when moving camera etc (kinda like the famous LOD popping everyone’s talking about). Turns out my rolling cache was put to off a long time ago, has it helped back then. Turned it back on to 8GB and it seems a lot better in that regard, although it could be just a matter of pure luck…

I have a Ryzen 5600X, 2070S, 32GB RAM and MSFS and rolling cache on a Corsair M
P600 SSD M.2. Everything on ULtra of course since the release of MSFS. 1GB fiber optic internet

I just add a little bit of Reshade’s Delc_Sharpen, as I always did since release back then, which further increases the tiny details (it really helps, though at the cost of clouds being even slightly more pixelated)

The blurry mess I see in some people’s screenshots here is NOWHERE near what I have.

If you want to compare, give me some Coordinates of a specific place where you want me to take screenshots

In the Interview they told they had to achieve memory reduction because of the Xbox. That’s why.

If I remember correctly he told that they compressed the textures a bit more to archive te reduction in memory usage to fit it on the Xbox. I dont’t think they lowered he resolution, but I could be wrong…

Screen shots, prove it.

give me the GPS coordinates of a place you want me to test and do several screenshots, use those coordinates to take exact same screens so we can compare. I’ll gladly do that if it can help

Somewhere over Namibia: 27°01’24.5"S 16°51’58.6"E

Altitudes are shown in the UI, from 5000ft to FL400. Open screenshots by right clicking and open in new tab for full 1440p res.

As you can see, there’s next to no degradation even past 40.000ft. Prior to SU5, there was for me a pretty strong one past FL200-250. BUT I was using LOD 300 back then. I’m achieving this because with SU5, I can push LOD 500 with still better performances than SU4 LOD 300.

I’ll try reverting to LOD 200, see how it looks on my setup.

EDIT: Turns out I was actually using LOD 400 for these pictures and note even LOD 500

Same. 6800ft. It was never this bad before.

something is indeed very wrong at 6800ft

I’m going to try my same place in Namibia with only LOD 200 which is the maximum the in-game will go, so we can compare how much pushing the lod to more than 200 helps in that matter.

But it would be nice if we used a common set of coordinates to compare between us with the aboslute same place/same textures

Not sure where to post this, but I have some really weird issues of photogrammetry not working and even the autogen stuff not appearing.

ENGM gone after I return to it:

I have all settings on, and have tried with rolling cache both on and off.
Trying to disable and re-enable photogrammetry in flight over such a area causes CTD.

Same place in Namibia, this time using LOD 200 instead of 400 (and not 500) previously:

As you can see, on my side, it clearly starts to degrade the worst at FL300 when at LOD 200, but clearly not at 6800ft

Here’s the same LOD200 over UK country side, 51°59’21.0"N 0°16’21.6"W

To sum it up, if you have super blurry textures this low, something is going wrong on the update on your side but not on everyone.

Same place, LOD 400

Thanks for posting just loading to take images of the same place.
Do you know what your external camera zoom level was please when taking those pictures?

You’re welcome! The more we can help each other, the better! Be it for helping people troubleshoot if it is a problem only they and a bunch of people are suffering, or to pinpoint with proofs that can be replicated problems to Asobo so things can’t be dodged.

I can’t recall exactly for the namibia set, there was some on lower altitudes.

The UK set however, I took care of not putting any zoom

Yes, for the majority of the time, whenever I am at 2000 - 7000 ft, it’s pretty bad. I am new to this game. I thought this was my own problem, but I guess this is happening with many players. Wasted a lot of time with those fixes available online. See the screenshot, it is this bad for me many times. 1st screenshot was taken during a straight flight from Dublin to London yesterday. And 2nd screenshot taken today over London itself.

are you new from SU5 or before that with SU4? Can you check in the data option if you have Rolling cache ON and where it has located itself? If off, put it to on, locate it on your best drive (SSD) and put 8GB. If it’s already on, put it off, see if that makes a difference then put it back on at 8GB. See if that also makes a difference

It is a disaster, I can assure you it did not look like this before.

I am totally new to the game, I experienced SU5 only, never experienced SU4. I have kept the rolling cache turned off from the very day when I installed the game, which is like 3 or 4 days ago. I will try your method. But I just a few moments ago found a possible cause for this, server load(I read somewhere that there is some kind of new load to the game servers because of Xbox launch). I have explained the experience on this link. Please do let me know what you think.
