Same here, or trying to do a VFR route on Japan. The quality is REALLY BAD
We said this a lot of times: We need a separate “Ground texture/Bing image texture” quality slider
I didn’t remember it being so bad. Yesterday I did another VFR on Japan and the ground looked so blurry even on 400 LOD that it’s better to go back to 2020 which it’s a shame, because the 2024 trees, biomes and seasons are better.
It’s worth noting that although you have “the entire world” at your disposal, in reality only rich countries from the Western World are well covered by Bing or Google map higher resolutions. Good textures are only found typically in the USA and “rich” countries in Europe (France, UK, Spain, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Greece and a bunch of others), Australia. India, Russia and almost all of Asia is very bad in comparison. Also, lots of dictatorships in the rest of the world and I’m guessing they’re not too keen on sharing their data and/or let western companies doing high res aerial photographies of their territories…
Africa (at least in various places) is suprisingly better covered than most of those continents, altough the desert-like nature of a lot of the terrain there looks better even at lower res.
Means only the Western World is really worth flying in.
I just tried the MSFS 2020 SU16 Beta to see if I could handle using the new ground textures. Sad to report that it’s a complete blurry mess (tested in South Australia). The terrain is now in even lower resolution quality than FSX or P3D. Something has been changed with the terrain LOD and the map tiling resolution. I believe it might have something to do with the sim no longer supporting 512x512 terrain texture tiles and is limited to 256x256.
Note to the developers: This issue has been brought over from 2024 to 2020 on SU16. I think it would be a huge mistake rolling it out in this state.
Is this also to accomodate the port to playstation?
Who, what, where, when, why?
Didn’t hear about this until today but watched a couple of the streamers last night and noticed how bad things looked and just didn’t get it, now it makes sense.
Oh FFS. I am just testing 2024 for the first time in months right now and was actually pleasantly surprised how well it performs compared to before. But the #1 remaining issue is definitely this texture issue.
Sometimes they look OK, then 10 mins later it’s a blurry mess. How they can not nail this when it was working fine for so long in 2020 is beyond me. It completely ruins the experience. PG was also loading in at a snail’s pace. How is it possible that they’ve regressed it so much compared to what 2020 used to be able to do.
This should be made the #1 issue in every devstream etc. I will stop using it if they don’t fix this, as it makes the Sim completely pointless.
And now they want to bring this malfunction over to 2020, unbelievable.
And what’s this about? PCs are always getting faster, so why are they reducing fidelity?? To improve performance on Xbox?
But I also don’t think this is 100% the cause, since some of the textures often look really good. Only some of them look terrible for some of the time.
I know. What I mean is: Whether this actually 100% means that texture quality will get worse. I know it sound like it should, I just wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt in case there’s some technical explanation that it won’t.
Possible reason for, its why I only fly in UK, USA and Europe, ground textures are great, really sharpe on max LODs, not really tried much else, maybe i will try others and see, which countries land textures are the worst, I will get some screen shots
I dunno, I’ve seen plenty of terrible textures in Europe, in popular places. And they were much better in 2020. On a different day, those same textures load in just fine.
I do run TLOD of 1000 though, so hopefully that helps, seems to, as all are sharp where I fly?
not Tried 400 or less for a long time, maybe i will try and see what they are like?
almost the same as mine, I only on 7900x cpu but all 12 cores running at 5.5Ghz, not VR, running 5120x1440 ulra wide screen and FGx4 , runs very well
I keeping away from VR, as cant run at high enuogh res, so 2D with eye tracking for me
for those with low LOD textures, can we have a list of
PC specs or on a Console/specs?
Internet speed?
Sim in game settings?
at what hight do the textures become blurry?
would be nice to know what percentage of players this affects? is it 1% or less of the player base or way more? as i have NO such problems, all textures looks crisp at all hights? in 2024 for me
Except from a couple of SU1 betas I’ve always had blurry textures ( aerials ). I reported the issue from day 1 and then opened several zendesk ticket and a few months ago I stopped complaining. The world textures are like washed out like they were streamed in super low res. No issues with airport textures. I have teied every TLOD settings but no luck. I have the fastest connection that money can buy in Italy ( around 200MB/sec).
7800X3D + 4090 + gen4 Ssd + 32GB ram at 6000mhz
If someone has some good advice please let me know
Honestely I gave up on this issue months ago.
It’s been hanging in MSFS most voted bugs for 8 months but nothing really changed in my case
