Grumman Albatross HU-16/G111 Thread

i had a flight where it would control vertically, but keeps switching to read ROL and would not work in HDG or GPS at all. it shows, but the plane wont turn. rebooting fixed those, but broke vertical control. This aircraft is the only one with a G1000 that does this. But ill go boot up the C-172 or Caravan to see if its a new bug with SU1b. regardless, in any mode, GPS is always switchig back to ROL. annoying, but doesnt make this amazing bird unflyable.

UPDATE: nope, the G1000 is working normally in the C-172.

@TheShavenWookie All of these issues should be fixed in the coming aircraft update. The G1000 in it is basically a replica of the Caravan’s setup now.

Cheers.

outstanding news! thank you! i wish every aircraft in this sim had people like you guys responding like this in this forum.

Exploring Aleutian Islands

I believe that Mike Patey has one and intends to do it as a camper model interior.
Don’t know when we might see it as he has many projects going .

I want his life, and half his energy…

Ya. I can see my Albatross anchored off the Fish Market in San Diego Bay.

Really need the black matte radome, and a paint kit to do the USAF “Flight From Ashiya” livery

Brilliant plane. I flew this yesterday around the Carribean islands. Not one mistep.

Thanks Ramasurinen, one developer with a sense of honour and pride in his/her work. Asobo should take a leaf out of your book for sure.

I would LOVE a Career Seaplane Company/missions - any way you can persuade them? I would love to use your plane/s (if you are developing any others - more seaplanes, HINT HINT).

@Pilotfirst9999 Thank you very much for the kind words. I really appreciate it.

I have brought up the mission / career issues. Unfortunately amphibians (and float planes) are currently excluded from all career activities except firefighting, so there’s nothing I can do for the moment. I am sure this will be fixed / improved at some point in the future though. When it is I will revisit this if I can.

Thanks again!

I figure while we wait for the update to release I’d show some of the visual improvements coming in it. Some are easy to spot, some are more subtle.

Cheers.

Man! These are great improvements!

I’m guessing they are holding out releasing this to us for SU1 for maximum effect, no?

Gotsta pad up those release notes…

These are brilliant, love the anchoring and EFB in a place that doesn’t blot eyesight. Could this plane be used in Medevac, with the stretchers?

Excited for these updates! I’ve enjoyed flying this plane all over Southeast Alaska and the Caribbean, probably my favorite plane that came with the sim. I hope we’ll start to see additional liveries pop up sooner than later, too.

HU16 was used by the USCG in SAR and Ive read reports of Stretcher’s in use with PJ/Medics assigned as Crew. Matter in fact one Coast Guard in the world still uses Amphibs, Japan’s. So even today like Yesteryear there well respected utility SAR Medivac Aircraft and Cost efficient 110% reliable availability, tough as nails.

Thanks, glad you like them. It’s a shame the forum software mangles screenshot quality so much.

@NixonRedgrave I still have no idea on the release planning, but I suspect they want the marketplace working first. I could easily be wrong though.

@Pilotfirst9999 It’s pretty common for private owners to stick pads up there, so it’s a nice fit, and yes well above eye line. Also you can toggle off the EFB and mount entirely via the clipboard if you want, and that setting is persistent.

I built the stretchers with SAR/medevac missions in mind but until career mode supports amphibians they’ll just be cosmetic. They are part of the nose radome “SAR” variant for now.

Cheers!

Thx so much for all the love and time you put into this fantastic plane! May I ask you about any improvements in flight dynamics and sounds in the upcoming update?

@Flykorni82 Thanks!

There are no sound changes in this coming update. That is the one part of the plane I don’t normally work on, so any changes or improvements there are up to MS’ sound design team.

There will be some flight dynamics improvements included. The main areas are weight and balance accuracy, with improved low speed and stalling behaviour, finer rudder trim increments, increased elevator trim authority, and elevator authority will now be more influenced by prop wash. Aileron drag has also been reduced at higher deflection angles.

There are some changes to water drag as well, so the wing pylons can dig in and yaw the plane a bit now. You’ll have to be very careful though as hitting waves hard with them could destroy the plane (just like in reality). Definitely want to keep the wings as level as possible in rough seas. I’ve improved the pylon wake effects though to give you a better sense of their level of impact in the water, so you can manage the pressure on them more easily if leaning on them in water turns.

Also due to water drag increases you’ll want to pay more attention to your elevator inputs when coming onto and off the step. It will be easier to submerge the nose accidentally if you’re rough with the controls, but should be smoother if you stay ahead of the aircraft.

MSFS 2024 runs good and the G-111 is very flyable.
It is very winter here at ATTU.

Looking forward to deploying.
