Grumman Albatross HU-16/G111 Thread

There was a sim update in FS2020 about 2 years ago that broke the “interchangeability” of the PMS addons with stock sim GPS units (I was beta testing an unreleased product update for a 3rd party developer at the time). I don’t know if that kind of thing is likely these days, but I would not say it’s entirely impossible either.

Every plane that has it baked in with EFB/clipboard/sneaky clickpoint options have always worked flawlessly for all the planes I’ve had with that.

I mean if you were beta testing I trust ya but it still works great in the Black Square and FSW products off the top of my head, in 2024 too, and I know there’s more too.

I’m talking fully baked in but optional, not community folder.

But the steam gauge option is available. I like the 1000nxi. There are 4 variants to choose from - please dont remove the 1000nxi.

Not what I meant, just hot-swappable or livery-optional in place of the 530 like on Black Square or FSW planes. I don’t personally like them in sims, but I get why people do, and the one time I’ve flown a plane with a glass cockpit(g1000 172) yeah, pretty great. I find it easier to read steam gauges on a monitor.

Okay, I’m completely flabbergasted!

The sound of the side windows sliding open and closed gets quieter when you move the window slower!

@Ramasurinen you are AMAZING!!

@FndrStrat06 Thank you very much, but credit for those nice little audio touches goes entirely to Dynamedion and Boyd Post at MS.

Cheers.

What do you mean the Albatross is “like” one of ten trouble free aircraft? It’s either trouble free or it’s not.

Think it’s pretty clear they mean roughly 10 but no one’s keeping a literal list…

Also not true, some planes have foibles that don’t necessarily happen frequently, or some people might not notice or care about. For instance, there’s a big difference between a plane that has critical functions not working and one with nav lights that are too dim. Software is never, ever perfect. Especially since the update I’ve noticed no issues with the Albatross, but I’m sure if I looked hard enough I could find a bug somewhere.

I think you’re misreading my post, but don’t worry about it.

The Albatross is trouble free, a bright spot in a sim full of problems.

Modern English. C’mon, get with the program here lol

I see with SU2 the filter for seaplane bases and water rwys will be fixed
It is frustrating now because it is broken.

@anon4683901 I installed SU2, and although it is stated in the release notes that the donut/circle is fixed in G1000, for me it’s still there.

Really? Can’t believe it…

Oh, I see. Thanks.

Hey, would someone have some tips with takeoffs on choppy waters? I’ve been taking off from lakes and rivers with no issues, but yesterday I tried flying out from a Caribbean island with a bit of waves and that did not go well. Trying either with headwind or crosswind, I always ended up bouncing too hard between the waves and having the sim register it as a crash.

P.S. Anyone else on SU2 beta having issues with cockpit lighting? Steam gauges on the HU-16 are not illuminating at all at night, with the knob at 100% light.

@anon4683901 @vShannon2563 The “donut” fix has been in the patch notes for both SU1 and SU2, but it also requires changes to the panel xml by the aircraft developer. It is fixed on my end and will be in the next Albatross update. Who knows though, it might miraculously start working before then if they do a more global fix for it.

@BrettMercier The SU2 beta seems to be interpreting light effect sizes and ranges differently from SU1 for some reason, culling very small lights. I have done a workaround on my end already (first problem I noticed), but I will keep an eye on it. They might revert that change as it affects many planes.

Rough water takeoffs are hard! Part of the problem is that there doesn’t seem to be a dominant swell in the sim in high winds. There are always a couple of big intersecting waves. The trick is to take things slow, build up speed until you can find and ride a crest comfortably, even if it takes full rudder and some differential thrust, and then slowly bring in more and more power, adjusting your course to remain on top of the crest.

Nothing beats a good bounce into the air though.

Good luck!

I know this is not on you Mike.
It’s just extremely frustrating to know that the QA team is not made from people that actually use the sim. This is one of those things that can’t really elude any QA team unless your checklist is “plane flies”, “plane lands”.

You need to “surf” the crest of a wave. This may prove tricky depending on wind direction/strength.

Hang ten, dude!
