Grumman Albatross HU-16/G111 Thread

Another tip - turn off sim crash detection. It’s overly-harsh and registers even moderate jolts as “crashes.” Most developers of third-party add-ons explicitly recommend you turn it off.

@BrettMercier @DrVenkman3876 There have definitely been changes to water dynamics in SU2. I’m seeing whitecaps near shore that were present only in open ocean in SU1. I always fly with crash detection on (lesson learned from Savoia S.55) and the Albatross is now crashing on waves that would have been fine in SU1. I’m working on tweaks, but we’ll see how this progresses over time. If you’re testing SU2, yes, please disable crash detection for now. It’s oversensitive at the moment.

Cheers.

In my own personal experience MS’ testing team’s work has really been outstanding. They have taken a bit of flak on this forum, but they’ve found bugs in my work, in a matter of hours, that would have taken me six months or more to find on my own… if ever. They see and use this sim differently than I do, under more complex circumstances, and I have the utmost respect for them and their challenging work.

Cheers, and thanks again!

So, I have a fun little surprise for you all…

Some of you really wanted some IFR “hard mode” in the Grummans, so coming in the next Albatross update the HU-16 will have a legacy panel option: no GPS, old(er) school avionics, and with ADF and dual VOR navigation.

You will be able to choose between the original modern panel layout or this new legacy one via the clipboard, with persistent setting between sessions.

Cheers!

Hi Mike, what is your next dev project? Your developments are so brilliant I hope we see another from you.

How about the AN-12?

This isn’t something I will probably use, but holy ■■■■ I really have to applaud the amount of work you are putting into this aircraft. It’s by far my favorite aircraft in the sim, thank you so much for the continued effort.

Seconded! Not quite my cup of tea, but I don’t see any other devs, big or small, putting as much effort into their aircraft.

The titanic effort is much appreciated!!

I will be more generic: Mike please do some other aircraft!

Yes, good choice. You could almost reuse the albatross nose, save yourself some time😉

Is there a prop pitch control somewhere on this?

Manual makes no mention of any:

Can’t see any on the engine controls:

But keybinds work to modulate prop pitch still (which is a good thing, not a complaint!):

I guess it’s controlled differently?

Edit: I found something on that here:
" couple of things - there is no propeller controls other than the feather buttons (which work) but if you use the keyboard CTL+F2 you can change the prop rpm that way. For some reason there are not propeller control levers in the overhead. I am not sure but looking at the original Albatross I suspect the props were controlled via electrical switches not levers as they were constant speed props and this feature was not modelled but the normal CTL+F2 etc will control the props for you ok, a little rough but ok!"

Update: Never mind, found them. Electrical switches!

Also, RTFM pg 13!

Heh - before your update, I came here to post the same page.

I remember trying to figure out how to control prop speed the first time I “discovered” this wonderful beast of a plane back in December. Glad you figured it out! Now fill ‘er up and take a nice long flight. The longest flight I’ve yet made in her has been from Ketchikan down to Seattle. Maybe this weekend I’ll do the reverse.

I love my Turbines, but for Aviation ASMR there’s nothing like two big radials droning away, with some gentle beat drifts, while land/seascape gazing. Those prop pitch controls are essential tone drivers!
