@CharlieFox00 That’s unlikely for the initial version I think, as I really can’t devote much time to it, but you never know.
I hear ya and I don’t even know what those steps would be. The lack of a full IFR-capable nav suite is probably the biggest thing holding back the G3X. Great for VFR, though! I’m still trying to get support for WT to integrate a G500 or 600 into the sim.
Yes, in those times during lower than expected MP situations, the virtual lever positions match controller throttle, and I’ve also tried to manipulate with the mouse to no resolution. It’s certainly related to something as the dev says with the calculations for supercharger levels.
Glad to know it’s on a list, this is still one of my all time favorite sim aircraft. Beautifully done, and immersive.
Will the G3X variant also come to the 2020 version ?
@ThijsF70 Yes, that’s the plan. So far it’s working fine in both sims.
I think these updates will come out after the new year sometime, at the earliest.
Cheers.
No one else is adding features to included aircraft a year in. Thank you for the hard work you’re putting into this.
If it’s not the most feature-rich included aircraft, it surely will be soon. It’s on par with a lot of third party addons at this point.
Agreed. The #1 Great Sleeper of 2024 Award for a fantastic aircraft that continues to get care and attention from it’s developer. Ready for your next project with money waiting!
Sorry for the question, but do you know if there’s a 2020 repaint for the HU16 in the 15th Italian Wing? Thanks.
So far the only discrepancy I have found is a difference between the analog gauges for CHT and oil and the numbers I see on the glas display.
And occasionally the starter sound plays out before the engine actually starts. This is probably a limitation by the simulation between engine start, combustion start and the sound effects. Not a big deal in any case.
@SaratogaPilot87 Great catch on the temp ranges on the G1000, thank you! I recently updated the analog gauges to improve their accuracy but I forgot about the Garmin’s display. I’ll have that fixed in the next update, after the one that is coming with SU4.
The duration of the starter sounds I can’t do much about unfortunately, as the audio is the one part of the aircraft I didn’t build. I reported this bug up the chain awhile back though, and hopefully it can be addressed at some point.
@WerwolfC I’m not aware of any Italian AF repaints for the Albatross, but there might be something available on flightsim.to? I created a paint kit for the aircraft several months ago, which is available there, so if you know a painter who might be interested you could point them to it and make a request maybe.
Cheers!
@TarkussCat @partywithrossco @TriggerMaru Just wanted to let you guys know, because you’ve all experienced it, that I finally found the root cause for the random supercharger initialization failure (which was limiting you to 30" manifold pressure).
If you’re curious: For some reason the sim occasionally engages the supercharger’s second gear during initial flight load, instead of the first gear. Most of the time it corrects itself during the load, but once in awhile it doesn’t, and then the bug appears. I had set that second gear to provide zero boost, since I am controlling the high gear boost pressure manually, and so hence no supercharging at all.
This fix will be in the 2.2.8 update sometime after SU4 (which includes update v2.2.7). Until then, if it happens again, just restart the flight and that should cure it.
Thanks for reporting it!
Cheers.
@Ramasurinen a new update is available for the Albatross in 2020 do you have the changelog ![]()
See the Grumman HU-16 Albatross section in:
@ThijsF70 Yup, see below…
Grumman HU-16 Albatross (2020)
Version 1.3.0
This is a fairly small update intended to bring the 2020 version to parity with 2024. Another update will be coming for both versions in the new year sometime.
The official notes have a mix of the previous 1.2.9 update and new 1.3.0 items. The fixes / improvements in this new update are below…
- Fixed fuel selector handle behaviour inconsistencies and animation issues
- Added squat strut (anti-tip brace) functionality (with clipboard option)
- Temporarily removed non-functional small pushback tug
- Fixed error in fire extinguisher switch code
- Fixed minor geometry issues in cockpit
Cheers!
@Ramasurinen Hi, thanks for your reply. No, nothing. I tried searching, but I couldn’t find anything on FlightSim. Unfortunately, I don’t know of any repainters, and I don’t know why I can’t make requests on FlightSim. Never mind, I’ll have to settle for your default repaints.
We did have the same problem back in the good old days of FS9 and FSX where we developed our Connie series, and we wanted to have the real 9-blade count before mixture and mags would be activated on the real R3350s.
As far as I know on the HU16 it would be a 6-blade count, but of course in the current sim they turn much to fast on starter torque to count blades or they don’t fire after the Engine is cleared.
Our gauge master developed a special sim-gauge that basically worked its magic around the actual simulator to get that to happen, but all of that doesn’t seem to be possible anymore with the current version.
I can’t thank you enough for your dedication to the Albatross. It is in fact almost the only reason I fire up the simulator lately. I keep plucking away at a slow RTW trip. Much like I would be doing if I had Bezos money ![]()

@SaratogaPilot87 Thanks for your very kind words, I really appreciate it!
As for dry-cranking / oil distribution prior to engaging mags and mixture, you can do that realistic startup procedure right now in the Albatross actually.
A couple of updates back I implemented direct starter RPM control (with a bit of randomness) to prevent the sim going wild with the rpm during start, and to allow for exactly this procedure. I matched the RPM limit during start to videos of a few different Albatrosses starting up, so you can follow the blades pretty easily.
As far as I remember, it’s a 6 to 12 count on the blades before engaging mixture, depending on how long ago you last ran that engine.
Set mags to off, mixture off. Crank for 6 or 12 blade passes, then disengage the starter. Prime for 4 or 5 seconds, engage mags, and crank away while bringing the mixture forward. It might take anywhere from 6 to 14 seconds to fire up, depending on the mood of the random number gene… I mean engine. ![]()
One day the sim’s default engine wear and tear system might be granular enough to make it really matter too. Here’s hoping anyway!
Cheers.
As in your case by now almost expected, a perfect explanation on the procedure. You are of course correct, the initial rotation is already slowed nicely.
The problem was actually in front of the monitor. Using the mouse and starter button I actually missed the initial rotation. Adding a dedicated button on my HC Bravo in SpadNxt, fixed that.
Hey everyone. I have a small new update for the 2024 Albatrosses (v2.2.7) that just became available with Sim Update 4’s public release, so if you have installed the plane locally please check your library. Sometimes the update doesn’t roll out to everyone at the same time, so if you still see only v2.2.6 available please check again later.
A larger update with a couple of new features, and several small fixes and improvements, will be submitted soon (for both sims) and should be released in the new year sometime.
Notes are below, and if you have any questions please ask.
Cheers!
-Mike

Hello,
TDS Sim Software would like to thank Mike for the great work in improving the Albatross, as well as the modifications performed to better suite the TDS GTNXi Pro.
From the TDS end, we have updated the marcfsx mod for the HU16 to version 1.0.2, which is in line with the latest Albatross release. We recommend that all users redownload/reinstall the mod from the TDS website. This should clear up any future issues with updates to the Albatross.
The marcfsx HU-16 mod for the TDS GTNXi Pro VC integration can be obtained from the link below:
