I guess my next flights will be around northern Iceland…
[Edit May 13th]
Right, I’m heading off into the great unknown: Akureyri (BIAR) to Vopnafjordur (BIVO) via Porshofn (BITN).
Just an FYI, so you know where to search if I don’t return…
…
Landed safely at Vopnafjordur , after following the coast around the northeast corner if the island, overflying the airports at Husavik, Kopasker, Raufarhofn and Thorshofen.
This island is absolutely littered with rock outcroppings:
It’s like playing whack-a-mole: No sooner do you eliminate one outcropping, another one pops up in the distance:
None, alas, matched the one in @LKFJP 's screenshot. I’m wondering if that rock outcropping has some local significance - perhaps called something like “Thor’s Throne” (I was disappointed that it was not near Thorshofen).
My next flight will take me from Akureyri to Grimsey via Siglufjordur…
05/15:
Well, I made a slight change to the flight plan yesterday, actually flying from Raurhofn (BIRG) to Alexander (BIKR) via Grimsey and Siglufjordur. Interestingly, Grimsey airport is not modelled in MSFS (been missing since 2020). You can land there, but I’d recommend an aircraft with Tundra tires, as the runway is extremely bumpy. In real life, the undercarriage would have been ripped off my plane, I think:
Still no visual on the rock outcrop…
