Those are some very old eroded hills. I’ll guess at somewhere near the southern coast of South Africa.
That‘s a relief … 
It’s occurred to me that this could be a good use for the Darkstar, best plane for covering large areas fast while looking for matching locations.
Time for a rare guess from me.

That seems like a good guess. I was thinking somewhere relatively far north because the tree line seems quite low down. It’s not high arctic, but sub arctic, probably.
