Just flew a “proper IFR” flight last night in the TBM. Loaded the CCR Transition and 19L Approach to KSFO - from “inside the aircraft” - without any issues at all. 100% “vanilla” aircraft without any mods. Used real-time traffic as well.
Prior to the latest patch I was having frame rate drop into the high 20’s at KSFO. Last night when I checked I was at 53 fps. Probably a dozen aircraft in the pattern at that time. I was sandwiched between two airliners on final, having to maintain spacing. It was great!
However, your mileage may vary…
To answer the OP’s question: NO. I have taken a very brief look back at FSX, and even downloaded the trial version of X-Plane. All I can say is, “Same as it ever was.” I’m moving forward with MSFS, bugs and all.
and then for me the xplane graphic, I can’t complain, with the free ortho and addon for airliner flights, they are very nice even if it’s not as good at a VFR altitude as MFS
nah… The problem is that is not vanilla in xplane, you need to fiddle with tools, ortho download of the area that you need, put shaders and the overlay is not great either in XP11… and I am a long term user of it.
Weather is a low point in XP11, and you know what I mean if you played MSFS.
I heard that XP is redoing the weather engine to bring volumetric clouds… but they defo need to do something with Ortho if they want to stay in the game.
The majority of my time is still in X-Plane. Just purchased the Hot Start TBM 900 and it’s the best airplane I’ve ever flown in a flight simulator.
Regardless, I fly both MSFS and X-Plane. If I want to enjoy the scenery and explore places in VFR I load up MSFS. If I want a full sim experience where I can utilize everything in my sim rig/cockpit, X-Plane it is.
I have played XPlane 11.5 again to compare a few things. I have to say that FS is awesome, BUT it´s not getting meteorological data quite right. It´s not that it cannot reproduce it, but it´s not picking it up well. For example, my real weather right now is 180/21 G31. I tried live weather first in FS and it felt just like any other day, no gusting at all. In XPlane, though, the feeling was much more like the real one for these conditions. In fact XPlane reading was 196/22 G32. So, I went back into FS and manually input the METAR weather using the same XPlane data 196/22 G32 and voila! the feeling was very realistic. I think MS or Asobo team has to look at it again to make sure weather is accurately retrieved for all locations! By the way, this was tested in SACD airfield.
Don’t let people put you down. Its only a stupid Internet forum and people are free to express their opinions…please do not let other people or trolls undermine your value as a person. You’re so worth it and a respectable person. Enjoy your preferences and don’t let someone make you delete x plane. Enjoy what you feel is best for you!!!
Ohh Yes, i use X Plane and P3D v5 everyday. Never thought i would do it, but i actually uninstalled MSFS completely and will not go back to MSFS before the third party devs are coming out with airplanes and especially airliners. I halted the purchase of airports as well, for now.
I will follow the progress, but that unstable buggy “game” is not ready to be called a working simulator for a long time. My opinion of course and might not be the same as yours.
Currently en route in the FFA320 from EGPF to LEIB passing over Andorra at FL370 and with Ortho4XP it is stuuning.
I love MSFS 2020 and will continue to use both sims
Nope, haven’t touched X-Plane in forever. The day after MSFS came out, I deleted all my X-Plane orthos and moved X-Plane from my SSD to my data drive and haven’t touched it since.
I had most of the important, large airports, from pmdg I had 777, 737, 747, had fslabs a320, and four A2A aircraft for GA flying, majestic dash, leo’s md-80, had about 65 major ORBX addons, spent £450 on simmarket alone, chaseplane etc you name it and I most likely had it. The only major addon I never bought was Navigraph, and I never bought and flew an aircraft in Prepar3d 4.5 that wasn’t deemed to be study-level by the flight sim community.
Also had xp11, and they gave me xp10 for free because I bought the early access version of xp11, bought hotstart tbm, flight factor 767 and no scenery or airport ever.
Stopped buying addons for Prepar3d 4.5 and xp11 two months after watching MSFS 2020 trailer, but everything still remained installed and intact. This is also the point where I stopped using flight sims altogether and diverted attention to MGS V temporarily to make the long wait for MSFS bearable.
By pure luck got into the MSFS alpha. Then two weeks later thought: “hmm let’s fire up p3d, take the a2a c172 for a spin and see how it feels.”
Took off, did three patterns, exited and uninstalled the whole thing. XP11 also met the same fate unfortunately. These sims were no longer for me. Been using the PC exclusively for work and MSFS since then. Been very happy ever since. It’s a world simulation we never had before but always wanted, and flight simulation is only one of its core components imo.
I only wish Microsoft released the trailer back in January 2018 so that I could save loads of precious cash by not buying so many addons for FSX. I meant Prepar3d…oops!
I started with Microsoft FS 4.0 all the way up to FSX. Then tried PSD and now I’ve X-Plane 11. My problem with flightsimulations is that my hardware was always outdated to enjoy the highlights of the current version.
I’ve made use of the ‘trial’ version for $1. After some testing I’m not convinced to stay with FS2020. Running FS2020 in the minimum specs is disappointing comparing to the fascinating possibilities it has. With the help of free ortho scenery in X-Plane I get a better result and performance than with the low settings in FS2020.
To answer the question of this thread, yes I’ll keep ‘playing’ X-Plane for a while. The reason is my old hardware that just fits better to it.
X-plane 11 atm is a more stable, bug free, and more polished product, especially for ifr flights.
I think msfs will be an amazing product in 6-12 months time, but visuals are not enough for me to stop using xp11 yet.
The time will come to drop xp11, but not yet msfs has alot of issues to address plus it needs some quality planes before i make the switch.
I too had P3D v4 on before MSFS, and XPlane. What I miss is the Aerosoft’s Airbus A319/321 Professional. Not they come very close to study level: they had a printer that would print out a load sheet; had crew announcements, albeit with a slight German accent; tray tables that moved; a flight attendant offering some coffee to the captain; and at cruising altitude, a newspaper would appear on the captain’s tray table! The cabins were even modeled. The repaints of the various liveries were excellent. I do miss those aircraft and I hope Asobo uses them as a example for future upgrades to the A320. Also, the great program GSX, which I hear is coming to MSFS in the future.
