Having Such an Unpleasant Time in VR Considering Refund

I know it was just released. I expect ATC and other navaids to get better. I see potential.

But the basic VR issues are ruining any enjoyment. Given 2020’s track record on VR I don’t have confidence these problems will be fixed. If VR bug reports were being logged, I’d perhaps feel a little more confident.

Having a dilemma on sticking with 2024.

I’m sticking with it.

You are not alone here. Microsoft might think VR users are a tiny group of people but they are wrong. Also we are the most hardcore simmers in this industry so they should invest time and money in this.
I’m frustrated

Do it, buy again after this alpha paid version.

After messing with it for a few days I’ve given up and retreated back to 2020. Got my money back and happy to watch from the sidelines for now. Very disappointing though, I was looking forward to it so much for a whole year

I did find if I do a bush type trip, don’t touch any menus, radio, dialogs, EFB, etc. that I have a mostly good flight.

Although, the mouse cursor is still underneath most of the instrument cluster.

I think I’ll stick with it.

I’ve found if I don’t interact with any dialogs/menus in VR that I have a great experience. I think that what causes mouse controls to start acting up. Also, there are airplanes like the Draco X that seems to not have any nagging issues.

This is limiting me to bush trips with no radio other than monitoring a frequency.

I bought FL 2024 Aviator just for the VR!
I also bought the Quest 3/512GB just for this, along with the 16-ft USB cable.

For controllers, the hand controllers are useless but since this is PC VR, I understand.
Keyboard control is a non-starter since the keyboard cannot be seen.
I dug out my GameSir T4 Pro and I’m doing better. I wish I could find a list of settings optimized for the 172 of possibly a settings profile for my controller.
I am making progress. Still deciding if I want to keep this game (Aviator was $200 !!).
I would love to hear from someone who has a game controller set up correctly.

So many things don’t work properly in VR… Menus don’t work correctly, Cockpit Camera doesn’t work correctly… No QC on this part…

Stick to the simple aircraft and don’t touch anything! I am starting to wonder if anyone play tested MSFS 2024 before rolling it out, some of the bugs are just ridiculous. But… I look forward to the next patches and I’m sure this game has a bright future.

In addition to the bugs and ugly UI, the performance I am experiencing in VR is so much worse than what I get with FS2020. Means, at current state FS2024 is unusable in VR for me.

I am still in a state of disbeflief… I was looking forward to something based on FS2020 but being refined, with better support for controllers and VR and carefully coded for getting the best out of everybodies hardware. But now it is worse than FS2020. No, it cannot be true.

Exactly what I thought. All the bugs i have seen … I am pretty sure they did not even test fly once, otherwise they would have seen the wrong animation of steering stick immediately. You cannot miss it. It is hard to believe, but it is what it is.

For me its running smoother and better than 2020 (13700/4080/Quest3/VD) so this may be a configuration issue on your end.

I agree on the world running smoother in VR than 2020

I do very little keyboad bindings in VR but I keep them to easy to feel keys on the outer edges. With a working mouse you mostly interact with the airplane like you would in real life, so most keyboard binding are not needed.

In 2024 having a way to feel out wasd can be helpful.

So you get more FPS in VR than in FS2020?

That is interesting and makes me wonder why I get approx. 40% less FPS with FS2024 on a 7800X3D + RTX 4090 system.

I tried everything I could imagine (latest drivers update etc, optimizing settings) but up to now with now positive result. Also I have seen many reports of less FPS in VR with FS2024 when compared to FS2020, which were in the same magnitude as I have experienced. Often these reports were linked to AMD processors. Let’s see if a cause can be identified - or maybe I come across the right settings, in case it is something to be fixed outside of the software.

I just haven’t been looking at performance since that is one of the things to me that feels amazing and solid. If I put on a FPS counter, I might start going a little crazy.

mY current fps is 45…in all my time, FS2020 or this I have never had above 30…notice they disabled all add ons, me thinks this has a lot to do with it

Has there been any comment or reaction from Microsoft/Asobo as yet regarding these VR issues?

It’s working pretty well for me with a medium spec PC and a Q3. It certainly loads much faster than fs2020. The only real frustration that I am having is that ILS doesn’t seem to work and there are numerous smaller glitches such as the deice for the DA-62 doesn’t work, but hopefully these will get fixed soon. I love the flight planner tablet.
