Asobo should have paid the HPG group to do the mission system. They already have that as an add on and Microsoft/Asobo should have paid them to do it.
HPG are heavy involved in aircraft development so it wouldn’t be hard to have a discussion with them.
It was a huge disappointment that they didn’t discussed the helicopter mission system in the developer stream. I guess we who flies the helicopters are a minority in the sim.
And by all this taxiing, dragging the rope and the hook on the ground, glad Asobo talked to all professionals for input. I bet they would have told them that take off and landing IRL is vertical to pick up/lay down the rope.
BTW, you don’t have to taxi to the end, the idiotic algorithm only checks if you reach the initial climb altitude, so taking off in any direction over the runway is fine. Still stupid, I know.
For those who haven’t seen how impossible it is to land the helicopters near some/most of the SAR targets (including eventual devs.. looking at you, David Dedeine )..
This is 2 months old but the situation is still exactly the same.

Here’s another, 10 days old
Video link: MSFS 2024 - Missions: Impossible
That’s because as far as I’m aware, the only part of career addressed is the midnight bug that ended missions. They’ll get to it, but presumably there’s more important (or at least what they feel is more important) issues with this masterpiece of bug riddled software ![]()
I still can’t find a single helicopter mission, so… ![]()
Another guesswork mission, where help from the crew would be crusial - if there was any crew.
I can’t really see MS24 helicopter missions succeed ( no phun intended) without adding a marshaller/crew guidance.
Timestamped video link: Helicopter crane, Aerial Construction attemp
The irony is that when you make that aerial construction certification, which is nothing else but flying a pattern, the “instructor” tells you that this is different because you have to work with a crew here…
BTW, with some luck I was able to finish that mission, moving very slowly and stopping and remaining in position when the mission step becomes green, but that’s ridiculous, especially there is zero information on the altitude you should be at, you don’t know length of the rope, the cargo, the height of the construction, nothing.
I will never be able to finish the sea rescue mission though, not even with a crew, I tried it once, I’m just unable to hover with no visual references at all (mirrorlike water).
Is the EFB map mode in satellite imagery mode displaying a pick up zone in the sea rescue test?
In my bug report video about the missing success recognition I showed how to set it up in the beginning
It’s also a bit stupid
to do it like that, but at least it is sort of an indicator as opposed to a straight out cheat. IMHO at least.
But I what I think is even more crazy is that the sim doesn’t tell you about it, yet for the spraying missions for example it is important, because it is telling you what part of the field you did and what not. From a gameplay perspective you need this. If you want to go RL hard core, just don’t use it.
I believe IRL they have tools much more sophisticated than the EFB, like this for instance: GPS Precision Navigation For Aerial Applications In Agriculture
I completed 10 of those missions with dopes on the side of a hill so I could do the hoist missions. After doing one hoist mission, you’ve done all there is to do with hoist missions.
I did a sea rescue mission. I circled all around a ship that was on fire. Eventually figured out that was a marker to let me know I was in the rescue zone. I was actually supposed to rescue some person floating in a tiny boat about 2 miles away from the burning ship. We waved at them on the way back to shore. ![]()

Hello!
A collection of bugs related to helicopters and helicopter missions. If you haven’t already, please vote, if you know of any more helicopter bugs or helicopter mission bugs, please add them.
Thank you

Sadly the answer is no. I did a post-sea-SAR-test mission in the same area and located the life raft. Even if you call in the position there is no marker on the EFB map. And, yep, due to the nice downwash ripple effect you just can‘t keep the attitude in cockpit view, at least me too can’t do it.
Besides outside view I have an idea though I can‘t test until the mission respawns: I figured if you mark the target in the EFB manually as a direct-to-point there is something to hold attitude towards on the map and radar altimeter for height. I tried it out in Free Flight and for what it is it worked!
Also I found in todays attempt that you can hover only 1-2m above the target, and trigger the hoist. And you don’t need to be dead on exact to hit the target with the hoisted crewman. Once he reaches it upright, the castaway will stick to him inside of 1-2sec. From then on just move away gently.
Another big problem is that there is no SAR-HOIST mission on land. The bug has been reported, I hope they will fix it soon.
On Xbox the water is like a mirror without any waves at all. You haven’t any reference at all.

Doesn’t look like any fixes for this in beta 3 either… ![]()
Just wanna know if SU2 had fixed this?
Okay, they might have hired someone who actually knows what a database is?
If they can remove surround powerlines for a spot, it should be the same fix to “remove the trees” from CSAR areas???
Imagine this to be done in 2025 (or at least before 2030) :o
They can’t, they are busy adding “features” no one missed and brings absolutely no value, such as:
1.5.19.0 release notes:
- Fixed taxi and landing career flow for VTOL, helicopter, and electric engine aircraft.
If you think that now you don’t have to announce taxi, then air taxi half a mile (or something like 10 meters, not sure which is worse…), then hold short of nothing visible on a prairie somewhere in the middle of nowhere, dude, you are wrong.
