Helicopter Throttles Are Mapped to Collective Axis for All Helicopters

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue: When mapping the throttle axis for the Helicopters category in control profiles, the throttle axis is mapped to the collective axis in the sim (when flying the helicopter) instead. Increasing/decreasing throttle after mapping results in movement of the collective instead of the throttle twist grip on the collective bar in-sim.

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue? Yes

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)? Every time

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Open Helicopters control profile and select my collective control in the controls list.
  2. Map helicopter throttle axis to the twist grip axis on my control.
  3. Enter game, load helicopter (any), twist the throttle axis on my collective and the collective bar moves in the cockpit instead, resulting in inability to control the throttle on helicopters that support twist throttle grips on the collective.

YOUR SETTINGS

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub. Happens always as this is a bug in the controls mapping.

What peripherals are currently plugged in? Please name all of them as there could be a potential conflict. All Virpil controls. Mongoose TM3-50 Throttle, Control Panels 1 and 2, Rudder pedals, Sharka Panel, and CM50 joystick. This isn’t a conflict; it’s a bug in whoever at Asobo setup the controls binding in the sim.

[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it? Happens in both.

[PC, MSFS 2020 Only] Are you using DX11 or DX12?

[PC Only] What GPU (Graphics Card) do you use? RTX 4090

[PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share? Ryzen 7950X CPU, 64GB RAM, 40TB of SSD storage.

MEDIA

Please add a screenshot or video of the issue occurring.

yes, the throttle is actually propeller and not throttle. At least in R66. if you map Throttle than the collective also moves. So there’s a programing bug defining what is throttle and what is propeller.

This caught me out as well. But if you assign your hardware as…

Set Throttle Axis

…then it will work. :+1:

I am having the same issue. I have tried binding it to everything in the power management and nothing works. I have no mod or add on. I just got the Virpil TCS plus for this reason and now I can not use it. There has to be a fix for this!

I also have this issue.

This was an issue in MSFS2020 as well, but I assumed they just didn’t have everything fleshed out after adding helicopters. The fact that it migrated into MSFS2024 as well is pretty laughable. They have a specific helicopter throttle axis in the game and none of the helicopters use it.

This is really ridiculous. I feel like it was a waste to go to 2024. Even the career mode for the helicopter are broken. Can not complete any of the training missions. I wish there was a better flight simulator out there. I guess i will just fly in DCS.

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
• Yes

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• As noted above there are two different ways of mapping the throttle axis for helis, one works but the other controls both throttle and collective at the same time, which is a nonsensical behaviour.
This appears to be a core sim big because it affects multiple helicopters. I had the problem first in the Westland Scout.

• No

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• I use a Virpil TCS plus collective and have assigned “COLLECTIVE AXIS” to my collective and “SET HELICOPTER THROTTLE AXIS” to my twist grip throttle. Works like a charm, tested in the Cabri G2 and Robinson R66.

I have the same device. Please try the mapping I described in the post above, would like to hear if it works for you as well.

I can confirm with 3d printed components, axis are messed up.

I tried for hours with different configs because of this binding. I’m pleased its not me then.

On my VKB Gladiator NXT and Bell Model 407 I can get the collective to work properly with “COLLECTIVE AXIS” but no settings will work for the throttle.

“Clever” move of Asobo/MS to make a helicopter landing mission a challenge of the week as long as this isn’t properly solved. For me this mission is not playable as I am not able to bind the right keys to my TM Airbus Stick + Quadrant system. Any help welcome!

I have tried every single bind in the power management section for the throttle. I was able to get the throttle to work for the G2 some what. I say some what because when i twist it, the in game motion goes crazy. It will twist one way and turn back the other way. So still not working. The collective works as well but for all the the helicopters it goes up smoothly to start and about mid way it just jumps up about 20 to 25 % and gets smooth again. Just so weird.

Are you sure the governor is off?

I think the governor on/off bindings are reversed, need to check that again the next time I start the sim. I have bound the governor on/off to a switch on my collective, but last night it worked exactly opposite from what I expected.

I have bindings set for ‘governor on’ and ‘ governor off’ and it works properly. Haven’t tried ‘governor toggle’

You are absolutely correct about the throttle axis.

THERE SHOULD NOT BE ANYTHING BOUND FOR HELICOPTERS TO THROTTLE OR PROPELLER.

‘SET HELICOPTER THROTTLE AXIS’ and ‘COLLECTIVE AXIS’ are the proper bindings and they work as they should in the R66 and Cabri G2.

The H125 does not have a modeled throttle axis. Use the mouse in cockpit to click it from ‘idle’ to ‘flight’

You can manually assign the helicopter axis throttle so you can twist between flight and idle as in real life. I found you have to manually add the axis by selecting the settings cog on that axis and manually selecting the axis you want for throttle on the left hand side.

Good find!

I wonder how it’s registering…? 0-50% idle 50-100% flight or -100-0% and 0-100%

For these types of helicopters with mode type twist grips, the Virpil software I use for my Virpil controls has the ability to set an axis to button. I did this so that when I twist my throttle axis 0-10% and again at 90-100%, it registers as a keystroke. I then bound those two keystrokes to “Idle” and “Flight” modes. That doesn’t stop the collective moving instead on other helicopters that have normal twist grips though. Technically, I should not have had to do this as the axis itself should register throttle movement properly and did, but the collective was moving on the H125 too before I applied button to axis configs for that axis in the Virpil software.

if you here any “clicking” while binding throttle, you will have a conflicting assignment. I was trying R44 from Flightsim.to and with my Bravo the Clutch switch was double assigned. Best result with helis seems to be clean empty assignments and build from scratch.
