I want to fly R66 in sim. This heli flying over my home sometimes and i liked it.
There is a freeware R44 in the making:
No toy helicopter required. The R44 helicopter shown in the video is of very poor quality. Joke category …
We currently have a piece of good quality toll helicopter.
Bell 47 receives realistic, continuous development support.
The H 145 helicopter will be released in August. Very serious work, the visuals are wonderful.
Microsoft definitely needs to improve helicopters. Proper flight physics, flight dynamics are required. I don’t know why the development team is wasting time … Dear Jorg Neumann, please take action on helicopters.
Please do not discuss third party helicopters in this topic. We have asked this before:
https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/helicopters-are-a-must/146631/485
I am going to delete posts after this notice that belong in Third Party Addon Discussion.
Thanks to Jorg Neumann for bringing Flight Simulator back. I’m very happy with the flight simulator. Wonderful work, fantastic sight. The best simulator for me. Helicopters are very important to me. I read the FSELITE report by Jorg Neumann.
Jorg Neumann said:
“On Helicopters
Jorg: We talk about helicopters and everyone is asking for them., Sometimes I wonder if people want helicopters or want something you can land anywhere and hover. Helicopters are hard to fly!
We are committed to bringing helicopters into the sim in 2022, but honestly, it’s going to be late 2022 given that it’s complicated. But we want people to get going with the Volocopter and Wantm excited for that.
When we bring helicopters to the sim, we know we need to put heliports everywhere. There’s a worldwide coverage for this we need to do, which is a lot of work. ”
I don’t find the development of helicopters complicated. Helicopters are obviously more complicated than airplanes. However, the helicopter is not so complicated that they have to wait more than a year for them to appear.
Check out the flight dynamics and physics of the Bell 47 helicopter from the Flyinside external development team. The development team developed realistic flight dynamics and physics for the helicopter. They did a very nice job!
It would be very easy for the Microsoft / Asobo team to work out the flight dynamics and physics of helicopters. Jorg Neumann has the influence, the network of contacts that promotes the development of helicopters. I don’t understand the reason for the delay.
In my opinion, Volocopter makes no sense. Completely unnecessary waste of time. The volocopter is a drone. It has nothing to do with the helicopter. I’d rather call it a game for the XBOX.
I would like to see and drive the classic Bell 206 JetRanger helicopter, which is one of the trademarks of Flight Simulator. Without the classic Bell 206 JetRanger, there is no Flight Simulator. It first appeared in 1998.
I am confident that the development of helicopters will begin in the first half of 2022. Without helicopters, this simulator will never be real.
I trust Director Jorg Neumann to read my post.
Thank you for the work of the development team!
Well… a volocopter might not make sense to you but conceivably it may to a bunch of others. The appeal of MSFS has many layers now, deliberately executed this way for success and longevity. Helicopters will be a very important chapter to MSFS when the time is right. It actually is very complex and will not get here any faster, because you, me, or anyone else thinks they have a solution to do it quicker.
Yes, Jörg! We want helicopters. As hard and realistic to fly as possible!
The challenge is the gameplay in a simulator. If I want a drone I use the drone camera that is already in the sim.
EVTOL’s are amazing aircraft and are like the future but I wouldn’t want a jet Ranger because they always did that one I’d rather fly new aircraft and if you really wanted a bell helicopter I’d want the Huey over the jet Ranger because when I got the new game I kept flying the aircraft that were never in a flight simulator games in the past as a default aircraft because as someone who played flight simulator games back when Microsoft a century of flight was the newest flight simulator I thought yes something new to learn and practice the two helicopters I think that I’d like to see is the 205 Huey and Boeing Chinook because of many uses there were for both choppers
I haven’t put in very many hours but I’m finally getting the hang of making a helicopter in a sim almost go exactly where I want (I’ve fallen off the bicycle so many times already!). For some dumb reason, when thinking about what a different sensation it is from flying a GA aircraft, Muhammed Ali’s famous catch phrase, “Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee!” comes to mind. Both the lazy floating and the zippy highly maneuverable possibilities are awesome. Looking forward to Asobo integrating helicopter flight dynamics into the underpinnings of MSFS and seeing where things go from there!
It time for you to add helicopters and this needs to be by the end of 2021 not 2022.
All the 3rd party dev’s are doing better then you Microsoft/Asobo.
The very worst helicopter from a 3rd party even if it fly’s like a plane is better then none.
You’re right. I would like to see Microsoft / Asobo announce a partnership with helicopter manufacturers. (MD, Bell, Airbus helicopter) According to the developer’s communication, the helicopter’s physics and flight dynamics are complex. This is true. Here you can start development, you can provide early access. Instead of developing helicopters, the development team is wasting time on the Volocopter. Volocopter on a drone. I don’t understand what’s going on here. Dear Jorg Neumann, say something to the community. We want to see a shift …
The drones are a pathway to helicopters, the big ones do function very similar to the helicopters and will gives more VTOL support we need for helicopters to come into the game
About the Volocopter, I do hope that it’ll be a free addon. Ain’t gonna get it if it’s a paid DLC or something… The real thing isn’t even “released” yet! For now, it’s one of those new futuristic “hopium” flying car, drone etc that probably still 10-15 years away from release (if ever).
I watched a few of Volocopter Youtube videos and it seems that it only fly max speed of 70km/h? Very slow compared to even normal helicopters… Will take notably longer to go from airport to POI.
Volocopter is one of those flying things that I want to get one for REAL (if I’m rich enough), but wouldn’t bother getting (pay) one in a sim.
Get in, type destination on tablet, press FLY, enjoy the view… Good for real life, but in a sim? Hmm…
That is not entirely true. VTOL vehicles do not behave the same as helicopters. They share some abilities (hovering, slow speed, moving sideways, backwards, etc) but the concepts are very different and the dynamics between both are miles apart.
While some of it may eventually be used, helicopters are still far more complex for a lot of different reasons.
The five helicopters I really hope for is the MH53e, Boeing Chinook, V22 Osprey, and mosquito XL
You listed only four.
And the sea king I kept watching the v22 Ospreys when I visited Wilmington NC
Speaking of complexity, a helicopter sim developer recommended the Canadian helicopter training manual for real-life copters to better understand how to fly one. Hopefully when Microsoft and Asobo get around to implementing helicopter physics, they’ll have some expert advice to go on but they might want to use something like the Canadian heli training manual as a reality check on how any helicopters they introduce to the sim behave vs. real-life behavior as described in the manual, e.g., how does the MSFS sim-provided helicopter behave in the various maneuvers described in the training manual, etc.
There are some other documents out there as well. From the FAA, etc. You have plenty of sources but, in the end, it all comes out to algorithms and formulas to make it happen, which exist for real world use but they may need to be adapted for the sim. That helps a lot but they need someone that can do the rest.
This stuff’s not easy at all. Making a good sim is just crazy.
If I got it yesterday in the Q&A right, they have started now with the project helicopters in MSFS 2020.
