This is about Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 → Flight Training → IFR Navigation → IFR Test. It is the last training. I’ve got A for all the previous ones but just stuck on this one…
I’m wondering if this is a bug or it’s just me doing something wrong. I don’t have any 3rd party add-in or MOD installed. A pure installation from game pass.
I think the main problem is the task 1 “maintain 5000ft at 110kts”- it immediately finished without even attempting it. Is this a bug? How did you get A?
I saw some other videos and they all took a few seconds to fly and completed the task 1.
It seems to be a valid bug.
It starts by saying you’re on a GPS course to EGPB, but in reality, there is not course indicator on the GPS line when you first start, and then when the course deviation line pops in, the GPS incorrectly gives you a course “away” from EGPB (looks like back to TUSUG rather than to EGPB).
I tried following the actual correct GPS course to EGPB but the sim will not give you much credit (about 1100 points) for following the correct course. You can pop in a “Direct to EGPB” and the GPS will show the right course, but you won’t get hardly any points for following it. If you turn to the GPS course that the sim incorrectly shows you, you’ll still only get about half the possible points for that segment of the test, and it will tell you you’re turning the wrong way onto 060 degrees for the first test turn.
So the GPS seems to be trying to fly a “TUSUG to EGPB” (which is what it’s showing in the scoreboard) rather than a direct to EGPB. In that case, it will take you back to TUSUG and then start to EGPB, but messes up the whole flight.
This is a change from some earlier time, because I had no issues (much much earlier in the sim lifetime) flying that test and getting over 9200 points. I’m sure I’d remember if this particular issue was around back then.
Regards
Try to confirm flight plan again. Pause sim after needle change course, than press “set direct course to” button and only confirm what is in flight plan.Needle should be back to direction 141. After that unpause and finish the task. You can use autopilot for better score.
Experiencing the same issues; GPS line starts on the correct heading when the sim loads, then changes to 360 just before the instructor starts speaking. Tried your suggestion and still getting a low score on first part. Will submit a bug report (beyond frustrating as this was the last training I need to 100%) and hope it gets fixed.
I tried agan and fail, youre right. But after few atempts managed to get A grade.
I focused to maintain 110kts and 5000f from begining, after switching to AP
i choose NAV mode instead HDG. Noticed that first part of exam lasted little bit longer than usual. Il try again to be 100 percent sure.
OK, managed to reproduce success pass few times.
Bad sign is if task box goes green very soon after exam beginning, and lady instruct you to descent to 3500. After mission restart i press AP than ALT, speed more than 110. Than I reload Sumburgh flight plan to get correct heading, and choose NAV mode. I tried many times till sucseed because I wanted to finish flight training 100%. My OCD doesnt allow me to keep it at 95% :-).
Thanks for all the replies, and happy new year. I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one and will try what @Adder9A said after I’m home. I’m kind of newbie so I didn’t do anything different than what the instructor in the training said, meaning I didn’t use Autopilot (need figure out how), and didn’t change any flight plan. I thought there were just trainings, so am I supposed to care about flight plan? I’m yet to figure out how, too.
I’ll try this when I get home from work today. I’m not terribly familiar with the lingo you’re using, but assuming your referring to buttons/controls on the Garmin nav unit. I’ll let you know if I run into anymore trouble or questions on your workaround. I’m still leaving the bug report in place; even with the work-around, it shouldn’t be this hard/convoluted to get a passing score for such a basic training module.
To keep it simple as I can… Task is not clear understandable and using autopilot AP is not mentioned, also pink arrow is pointed in wrong direction. Is it bug or deliberately i dont know. I was frustrated trying to get A grade few dozen times and finaly find a way to achieve it. So press AP for turn on autopilot then press ALT to keep altitude, throttle around 80% to not lose speed. Next press “Direct to” button, looks like D with arrow. When additional box opens, press ENTer two times to activate fligt plan. Pink arrow on screen now should be pointing straight up to 141 course, and now pres NAV to enter navigation mode so that plane starts to folow flight plan with autopilot. You must do this fast before lady stop to explain task. If you see task goes green too soon, restart and try again. It must last at least 30 seconds before she ask to descend to 3500f. Rest of task you can do without autopilot. Press AP again to disengage and fly yourself. Feel free to ask, I will be happy to help…
It worked for me and I finally got 100%. @Adder9A you’re genius. Thank you so much. I took me several times though since I didn’t use AP after finishing task 1, and didn’t know exactly how to do AP myself. The training has zero reference about AP. Is there somewhere I can learn AP in MSFS?
Glad that you succeed
I myself learned basics mostly from Youtube. For start lean to use AP for simple holding altiude ALT and direction HDG. It is useful on longer flights. After that using navigational aids like ADF and VOR, ILS etc. There is lots of things that you need to learn, but is rewarding when you learn how to find airport in dark or make some difficult approach in low visibility passing through clouds. How to start with navigation?
I’m actually having the same issue with MSFS2024’s Career IFR certification exam.
The issue I’ve been having is that it’ll stuck on B rating with only the “respect flightplan altitude” stuck to 75%.
Update:
The issue is still there but I’ve managed to somehow got an A…
Same issue with MSFS 40th Anniversary. No matter what advice I followed in the above nicely put topics, nothing worked. 1st task is always getting green, even if I pull the yoke to climb so that I avoid being at 5000ft, or take a sharp turn to avoid following the GPS (in a hacky attempt to invalidate the 1st task from getting approved/green)
Countless restarts, it never worked.
Hi, I have a problem that the stepping gears are still at 5000 feet and the speed is 110kn. I don’t move any further and I don’t get the dial to descend to 3500 Ft. Where is the problem
