Could anybody please get on discord with me to help me set a flight plan with the CRJ?I paid a lot of money for this plane and I dont use it at all because I dont know how it works - Differently than every other plane in FS. Thanks.

Might I suggest this one

I tried that video and I didn`t manage to make it work :frowning:

Here’s a good short (1 hour) tutorial;

If you want to get into the nitty gritty, watch the entire playlist by ā€˜The Dude’;

It’s worth the effort of learning. I’ve sunk many hours into it now. You don’t need to use simbrief to get started, but in order to create a flightplan you do need to learn how to use the FMC to at least add in the departure and arrival airports, runways and SIDs and STARS. This isn’t a complex process and the FMC is far easier to use than say the A320 MCDU for example.
Simbrief will give you a flightplan which can be loaded in to the CRJ, but you will still need to add in your approach information entoute when you get it from ATC. So again you need to familiarise yourself with FMC.
Especially bring able to edit the route to remove discontinuities or changing approaches at last minute say. There are some great YouTube videos out there.
It’s worth learning. Now my favourite airliner in the sim. Been using it since Dec 2021.
If you want rudimentary then just take off from any airport, then use FMC to choose a destination, pick runway, approach and star, hit EXE to load it in the hit DIR INTC then click on first waypoint if STAR in FMC, and the aircraft should head straight there. Basic, but it works and you can learn on the way.

Hi, I watched a lot of tutorials and Im not being able to fly the aircraft. Maybe because Im a ā€œcasualā€ simmer, but I wanted to fly this aircraft very much. Could you please take the time to teach me? Alot of the terms used are unknown to me and I was even try to follow a tutorial and for some reason the autopilot would turn on and off almost immediatelly. Please? Thanks

Where does he get that flight plan? And how does he know which one is direct and which one to select on the right side?

Simbrief (you need a Navigraph account but it is free to create one and use simbrief) generates the flightplan. In Filbert Flies video he’s manually entering it, but you can load it in automatically too.

Basically,

  • Set up your simbrief account (first time only)
  • Create a flightplan in simbrief. You only need departure airport, arrival airport, airline, flight number, and aircraft type, the rest you can accept defaults, then hit ā€˜generate flight’ to generate the flightplan. You can get this plan as a pdf as pictured in the video or as a flightplan file for import to sim and CRJ.
  • Download the simbrief desktop exporter app (first time only)
  • Choose your save directories (first time only)
  • Choose one directory for MSFS (flightplan needs to be loaded from World map for in game ATC to work)
  • Choose other export directory to be CRJ ā€˜work’ directory. (First time only)
  • Hit export files in the desktop simbrief app.
  • Load exported flightplan in World Map
  • Load exported flightplan in CRJ
    Ready to go.

You can also start CRJ in ready for taxi config in which you can bypass manual APU startup, and engine startup. It will auto start the CRJ.

Beyond that just contact ATC to file your IFR flightplan then ground to taxi and tower for takeoff.

I found this tutorial very helpful. https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/VMvw1_C3yVg It helped me a lot to get procedures in right order. Also covers FMS setup. Aerosoft documentation also covering FMS setup very well for their tutorial flight. Personally to make everything faster I load flight plan from simbrief.
Download crj flight plan as covered by
@BragRaindrop933 power up aircraft and go to FMS.

  1. Go flightplan
  2. Go secondary flight plan
  3. Go pilot route
  4. It will list all loaded flight plans for you
  5. Choose one you want it will load as secondary flight plan
  6. Go to secondary legs and see if you don’t have discontinuity sometimes SID STAR can be off if you don’t have same irac on simbrief and flight sim.
  7. Check if you have ā€œload perf from flightplanā€ option checked in CRJ settings in tablet. This will load whole perf for you so you don’t need to worry about profiles and fuel management. Only scan through pages if everything is same as per simbrief manifest.
  8. Once you happy with how everything looks click activate and exec. It will load it as primary setup and you good to go

This is how it works for me. Setting up flightplan by hand also works fine in CRJ but is much more clicking through and it takes time.

Great tip with #7 there. I didn’t know about that option, now checked on my tablet. Any reason you set up with secondary flight plan instead of primary? Not sure about that bit. I just load into primary and check for discontinuities. I’ve not used secondary before so don’t know it’s purpose.
Agree manual entry is something I can live without. I’m more of a 5min set up and go person.

I’m using secondary flight plan because this page has ā€œroute menuā€ and you can load your flight plan only from secondary flight plan. I dropped below some screens how it looks at my end.

When you select flight plan you want it will show route loaded message. It will be loaded to sec fligth plan. You can scan through all pages (perf and legs) if is all good and then hit activate and exec. If you will find that something is messed up you can load it again correct and activate once more. This the reason why is secondary flight plan to make primary easy to fix by overriding rather than fixing route in primary.

When you have all activated whole route should be displayed on MFD. I hope this will work for you happy flying

You can also get to the route menu from MCDU MENU->FMS1 ACT->ROUTE MENU->PILOT ROUTE LIST,

but I’m still not sure why you need to do this step. You can load a simbrief plan straight into the FMS FPLN by
FPLN->{enter plan name eg ā€˜EGLLEHAM’ then press the lines under the label ā€˜ROUTE’ in the MCDU the flightplan loads directly into the FMS then you hit EXE. It’s completely loaded in.

If you want to use a previous flightplan then looking for it under the lists is possible by your method or my first line too.

I was always doing it that way even with p3d version long before fs2020. Thanks for a hint I didn’t know you can do it in this way

Now I gotta learn the details but Ill keep you all posted and send some pictures later. Thank you so much. The post continues for the CRJ Saga, but Ive made good progress today, hehehe
Thanks!

It’s an aircraft that takes effort to learn and sustained effort to fly, but very rewarding when you can fly it. I’d watch the Filbert Flies 1hr on the CRJ if you haven’t already, it’s good for tips. It’s a much easier aircraft to enjoy when you learn how to interact with the MCDU to edit and change flight plans and approaches. It’s also way easier to interact with it than the one on the A320 IMO. The main challenge with it beyond the flightplan entry is managing speed and watching it like a hawk, especially on approach & final with full flaps, 140kts is a good stable target landing speed. Keep persevering though it’s worth it.

I’ve not encountered P3D version so this is my only reference.

Guys, whats the purpose of the speed button and adjustment in this plane since theres no autothrust? Thanks

CRJ don’t have autothrust

you should control your speed with your throttle

It may be a challenge but interesting when you are landing

The speed button is for VNV climb where you can set the climb speed. The aircraft will manage speed by changing pitch, so this does need autothrottle.

You should use it instead of VS climb in the CRJ for climbing. The CRJ needs speed to climb, if you’re slow you won’t climb to max altitude.

High up you need to climb at mach 0,74

The only thing where you miss autothrottle is in cruise. You need to be careful to find the sweet spot to stay on your desired cruise speed and not need to play around with the throttle.
