Holding Pattern acc. IFR Charts - CRJ

Hello Community,

I am flying the new MSFS CRJ atm and I want to start flying this bird on VATSIM today. To be prepared, I want to make sure being familiar with all systems.

So, I am asking myself how to program a proper holding acc. charts.

This is the STAR overview of EDDM. Let´s say I want to join the holding after coming via KOGOL4A. I just created a quick flightplan from LIRQ to EDDM with the only WP BETOS. Then I added BETOS to the holding page.

Now, I am asking myself how to fly the holding acc. the chart. I consider, my INB CRS/DIR would be 000*, because this is the heading I am coming from ANDEC. The QUAD/RADIAL is SW/247*.

Am I right with this? Also I noticed that I can´t input values into some options, so I consider I am using a wrong format.

It would be great, if someone could tell how to propably fly/program this holding and how the formating of the input looks!

Thank you and stay safe!

Inbound course should be the inbound course of the holding (067), the FMS will figure out what entry procedure to use based on the current track (000). The chart is clearly not to scale, it seems like the track from ANDEC is nearly 90 degrees to the holding inbound track where it actually is 67 degrees meaning that you can actually choose what entry to use, either DIRECT or PARALLEL.

This is what the FMS should do:

Thank you! So, I consider I would go for 69/R TURN* into LSK3. Does the holding time increase the radius of the holding or just increase the time, I am flying in the holding?

The holding time only affects the inbound time, its standard 1 min below 14.000 ft and 1.5 min above. It adjusts the outbound time so the inbound leg is 1 min or whatever you punch in there. For example, if you have tailwind on the inbound leg, the outbound leg will be longer than 1 min to make the inbound leg 1 min.

Btw, if you know that you are stuck in the hold for a long time, it’s not uncommon to request 2min outbound legs, instead of 1min legs.
Much nicer for the passengers than 1min straight, 1min turn, 1min straight etc…
