How can I get 60FPS as others say they have?

Sadly I don’t think it’s possible my friend. If someone tells you’re they’re getting 60FPS on Ultra in the airliners they’re lying or they’ve really tweaked settings. You’d have to drop down the render scaling a ton.

I’m just hoping for a non-choppy game. Right now it can be a stutter and slideshow simulator. For example I took off from KATL last night. I didn’t get more than 30-35 FPS on the ground and maybe 35-40 in flight it LUCKY. This is with a 3080 and 10700K. I think Asobo has a ton more work to do optimizing before any hardware can get smooth 60FPS at 4K Ultra. If you really want 60 FPS though I’ve found switching to low end will net me 60 FPS+ and it feels very very real like you’re there.

I will settle for a smooth 30FPS now. Hell, for years with MSFS, I struggled to get about 15. hehe

Honestly I’m not surprised by the performance you’re getting. I could easily see 25 FPS for that rig even thoughts it’s great hardware. Probably the easiest fix is to lower the render scaling and LOD and test that out. Are you primarily CPU or GPU limited? Turning off traffic and vehicle density etc could help too.

Agreed.
Render scaling in my brief testing was a major boost.
Try at 100 and see how it looks. I honestly can’t see the point of making it much higher than that, certainly no higher than around 125.
Terrain LOD also. Try it at 100 and see how it compares.

Note that many of the settings can be changed without a game restart, so you can enter a flight, ESC out to the settings, tweak, and resume the flight. Usually, the only indication of any change is the FPS.

60fps means nothing without knowing at least the location and viewing angles (Spec and settings too of course).

Here is a video I highly recommend for you: https://youtu.be/75t_jRQII4w . You should roughly obtain the best FPS for quality following this guide, he did all his testing over Manhattan, so at least you now have something reasonable to compare with.

I’ve never checked my FPS in MSFS and I never will.

I don’t know if its a glitch in my setup, but if I have the VFR map open on the other screen my FPS jump up 30-40 FPS anyone else notice this? I would think having the map running would kill the frames not make them go up? I not complaining but if it gets you even a few FPS might be worth a try?!

Alienware R11
G-force 2080 super
32 gb ram

The frame rate counter is cumulatively counting both screens.

Here’s the advice I give to people.

Start with Render Scaling set to 80, anti-aliasing to TAA, Anisotropic to 16x, Texture Supersampling to 8x8, everything else on High, and adjust from there based on your wants and the ability of your hardware to keep up. Don’t get tricked into going Ultra on volumetric clouds, it looks amazing, but it’s a performance killer. I put windshield effects on Ultra because it most closely mimics the real world, but it can hurt but only kicks in when it’s raining or snowing, but it can hurt.

I also put glass cockpit on “low”, and other than when I’m doing aerobatics in the Extra, I haven’t even noticed and it seems to help.

Air traffic can also play a big role, especially the “AI Offline” version, though they claim the latest patch improved that. I haven’t given it enough testing to have an opinion about that just yet.

Lastly, as many others have noticed, you do not in any way need 60fps in this flight sim, or any other for that matter. I turned off the on-screen fps counter and only check when my eyes tell me there’s a problem, which is rare, and usually indicates framerates below about 25 or so for long enough to notice.

Other than some low altitude areas around Seattle, my 2070 Super shines with all of the above. I keep trying to sneak in ultra on the clouds, but it never works out well, except when there are no clouds. Oddly enough, I seem to get better performance weaving in and out of buildings in Manhattan than I do in less concentrated (but still fairly dense) areas in Seattle. Go figure.

Anyway, enough rambling from me, I’ve found these to be a great starting point if you would like to give it a shot.
