I appreciate the efforts of Asobo with bring such a visual extravaganza to the world of flight simulation and appreciate that there are many issues that they are working through to appease the many complaints that abound since the sim released. For me, the following improvements would make the sim more functionally useful.
-
Floating Menu: Select an Aircraft and load it accordingly. This is to avoid accidentally creating a plan and forgetting to change the currently selected aircraft, only to have to go back and recreate the plan etc. This could also be good for changing to a different aircraft during a flight if the current one didn’t suit. I know you can change aircraft in Dev mode but you then loose logging capability.
-
VFR Nav Menu: You currently see AI aircraft on the map. In the World map you see live players. I’d like to see Live players, say in Green, so you can tell them apart from AI traffic. This would be great for Group Flights (particularly in VR).
-
TCAS: I’m starting to see AI traffic added to the TCAS displays for the G1000/G3000 equipment. I’d like to see this supported for Live traffic also. Again, good for flying in Group Flights.
-
Flight plans: Currently, if you load a flight plan, you need to spawn at the departure point. I’d like to be able to spawn at any point in the plan and allow the plane to still fly the plan from the point spawned. Currently, if you pick an airport along the route to spawn you loose the flight plan.
Not a huge list but these basic areas would add so much enjoyment to the sim for me.

First of all we need Asobo to fix all issues with the core of the simulation. There are issues with piston engines, turboprop engines, aerodynamics, rudder/ground handling, propeller physics, tail draggers, water physics etc. etc. These issues should be fixed and ironed out first before doing anything else. Then we need the ability to change airplane without using devmode, information in the VFR map like frequencies, wx, metar, approaches available etc like in P3D/FSX and X-plane. Would also be a nice idea to be able to move the airplane around on the VFR map for training purposes. We also need the feature from FSX where you could track the accuracy of your flying.
Lastly, I would suggest a new feature to be able to have native time acceleration support. Both for short and long haul with speeds up to 16x at least (preferably 32x). This is already supported, but doesn’t work very well. In the old FSX, the FSX engine would blurr out ground textures etc for increased smoothness and performance during time acceleration. This was very useful for long haul as well as short haul. As soon as you went out of time acceleration, FSX would load in the entire scenery again.

Sounds like this sim unfyable with such many issues. Strange. It seems I have been flying and enjoying without knowing how broken everything is.

It’s not unflyable at all. But there are many issues with the simulation. Many inherited from FSX. I’m also a real life pilot, so most of these issues are quite obvious when I’m flying and to me very annoying. I think Asobo should put their main focus on fixing these. Unfortunately, most MSFS users are not pilots so they will never notice them. They mostly complain about graphics, which is where the primary focus is by Asobo it seems. I can only hope this will change in the near future. MSFS has so much potential.

Beauty is definitely within the eye of the beholder. Some people get in their plane, take off, fly over stuff, make their approach, land, and marvel at the incredible flight simulator we have at our fingertips.
Some people have problems with Live Weather, ATC, certain planes, certain airports, certain altitudes, certain situations, trying to buy new planes, getting a CTD, etc.
Here’s how the sim can be approved, and you can call this my Christmas wish. What I want is for all my reasonable flying buddies to be happy. Not everything under the sun can be fixed, but let’s knock out the heavy-hitters. Instead of reading multiple duplicate threads about how people can’t get something to work, I’d love to see threads about how they loved their experience. More happy customers means more $ for MSAsobo, and who knows, maybe that means more developers, more servers, more whatever for us.
…And then I woke up…

I would love to have a legacy UI option with exactly the features and usability from FSX, it could be a one to one copy of the FSX UI and i would be happy. I miss to change views using the context menu.
Hmm, ok. Your list is quite long though and you even indicate it is not full. Are you sure the team is aware of all the specific issues and what exactly is wrong? The next patch is in 3 months, so there might be a small chance to try and push for some improvements.
But like you say, the issues are not very evident to the most of us, who don’t fly real planes, so raising them will likely not garner too much focus/support. I am all for max possible realism, but would I notice the difference when I am flying if all those issues you mentioned were fixed?
When I read these posts about how lovely everything is, I can’t help but wonder if I am playing the same game as them.
Seriously, the game has regressed so much in the last month…I don’t even play it anymore. I moved the yoke and throttle from my desk.
How exactly it has regressed for you? I have not noticed anything that would prevent me from flying.
Agreed 100%.
The Sim is a technological marvel. Amazing to see it working as good as it does with so many “moving parts”. The list of online servers that provide data streams is staggering in and of itself. It really is a masterpiece.
Just need the core functions that underpin the Sim to be fully fleshed out, fine tuned and stabilized.
It’s an ongoing process and progress is being made although sometimes it’s two steps forward and one step back. But, we’re only a year into a 10 year journey…

It depends heavily on what you do, till the temperature bug came a few days ago i had much fun learning to fly the fbw airbus, if i where still busy circumnavigating the world in the dc-6 i would still be happy because it would not bother me below FL250. But i had a similar experience back then, i was happy with the dc-6 and then SU5 broke everything for a few weeks.
The haze/low cloud problem in USA, air temps of 250, Real WX rarely works and when does it changes abruptly, Real traffic rarely works, settings reset when using content manager.
Maybe not important to you, but it disgusts me so I choose not to play. If you enjoy it, I’m glad.

Ok. The temp spikes bug has now been fixed, not happening anymore. It was an issue for two days, not more.
Real WX is working now as well, not noticing any rapid changes in it. Real traffic and AI both have issues, but as far as I can tell, there are planes in the sky, and no huge changes in it for ages, always been like that.
Settings reset is a minor annoyance for me, it only affects the assistance options - quickly reset back to my preferences -, at least for me, and not very often. Seems to have something to do with switching the plane after SU7 (don’t know though, just my experence). I would expect that to get fixed with the upcoming patch.
Right now flying at FL370 with live weather, everything is as expected:
Great. Have happy flights.
These where really great, especially with all the documentation to read before the actual lesson. You could even print out your flight sim pilots license after you pass the last check.

These are mostly the core of the simulation. I have not even listed all the points for the various parts of the simulation. I have submitted a ton of these, if not all, so yes the team should be aware. The problem I think, is that 99.9% of the userbase of MSFS are not pilots. That’s why it’s so difficult getting through with basic flaws in the simulation. They would rather focus on the issues the casual gamers complain about, which is the majority of the userbase.
You are right when you say they are not very evident to the majority. However, it is after all a flight simulator and hence it should simulate things correctly. You will definitely notice a difference if you pay attention, even if you’re not a pilot. Many things are not even simulated, like beta range on turboprops to name one example.

I had forgotten that! What memories. Truly legendary titles they were. I wish they had teamed with King Schools or Rod for MSFS!
There is hope, there was some talk about how they plan to improve propeller and engine logic when they implement helicopters in one of the q and a’s, which i don’t really understood because im not a pilot, but i wish for a highly accurate simulation as well, just to learn about these things.
