How do I Move just the Community folder from Default to new location (SSD -> NVMe) new PC

I built a new PC and my old PC had the Steam install and the community folder on two separate drives. On the new PC I installed the Steam version of MSFS like before but I cannot remember how or what I did so that MSFS recognized the different location for the community folder. I believe what I did was very simple and I don’t believe I set up a share or symbolic shares/shortcut/ links.

My SSD does have plenty of room so should I just set my addons in the current location? Do I gain anything by having it on a separate drive? Is there any harm in adding and then deleting the addons? Say I going to fly in Germany so I copy all my addons that deal with Germany , from my NAS, into the community folder and then delete them. Next time I just copy them back from the NAS.

Thank you

How to move MSFS from old hard drive to new SSD - MS Store ver.

1 create new folder named MSFS 2020 on for e.g. D drive // D=new SSD
2 copy Official and Community folders from
C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages
and paste to D:\MSFS 2020
3 after that go to
C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache
4 in notepad open file named userconfig.opt
scroll down to the bottom and edit last line
e.g.
InstalledPackagesPath "C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages"

// Packages is root game folder
// D = new SSD

change
InstalledPackagesPath "C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages"

to for e.g.

save changes

After that go to

Oddly my scenario was almost the opposite - Steam install on G: drive and the MSFS settings etc in my Users folder on C:. Using symbolic links/junctions I now have both on my G: drive. I think the command was "Mklink /J ". I cannot comment on the pros/cons of junctions/symbolic links only that junctions have always worked for me.

You can go to Win 10 Settings, Apps and under
MS Flight Simulator, click “Move”.

Tell it where you want it moved to.

Hi TenPatrol,
When trying to move my Packages folder I see that my MSFS installation’s Packages folder is under
“C:\Users\Alf\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages” and not under “…\Roaming…”.
The “LocalCache” folder has an arrow in its icon and the 140ish GB don’t count against the free space on my SSD’s C: drive, where Windows is installed and where I thought the MSFS was installed.
Weird.
I initially had problems installing. The solution was that I had to set a drive, which would only shortly show in the Disk Manager, to “Online”, and only then the installation would proceed.
Am I doing something wrong. How do I get the MSFS installed onto my SSD.
Would you have any idea what is going on here?
Thanks, Alf

Where is folder named WpSystem?
Disk D,E,F,G …?

Thanks for being so kind to respond.

I found the WpSystem folder in drive D:, which is an internal drive. I did not intend to use this drive for MSFS, as this drive has some problems.

I tried to copy the Packages folder over to C: \Alf\Deskop\MSFS 2020, but I get an error message:

How many hard drives (SSD) do you have?

1 external SSD 2 TB to boot MacOS (NVME M.2 hooked to Thunderbolt 3)
1 external SSD 1TB to boot Windows (NVME M.2 hooked to USB3.1)
1 internal SSD 128 GB as part of a 2 TB Fusion drive, which has problems (long boot times, very slow read/write times).
On the internal drive there is a Bootcamp partition D:, which to my suprise houses the WpSystem folder under D:. This seems to have been created 4 days ago without my knowledge.
I do not intend to use the Bootcamp partition, as it is on the internal drive having problems.
I recently cloned MacOS to the external SSD and use MacOS from there. The Bootcamp partition cannot be cloned, so I abandoned it.

Thanks so much. That worked. :grinning:
Unfortunately, there is one issue left, and that is, that when I start the program I must set a new drive popping up in Disk Manager to “Online”. If I don’t do that while that drive is showing (only for around 10-15 seconds), the program won’t start.
That drive is named Disk 5 or Disk 6 and shows differing sizes.
