How do I open a satellite map with city names?

Hi,

when I press V, a simple map with land/water opens. But I want to view a satellite map with city names in flight, is this possible?

Thx

I believe there are addons that will replace the default, near useless, VFR map.

You can use little nav map an addon, but as far as I know you cant dock it into a window on the sim, you’ll have to switch back and forth, unless you run it on an alternate view screen. I use it on the second monitor and it works great.

I have Little NavMap on another screen, was well as Pilot2ATC which both have options that you are looking for.

Sky4sim. Better than sliced bread

Adding to the add-on plugs: GTFP. You can set it on top of the MSFS window once it is connected to MSFS.

So MSFS uses Bing maps for t he scenery but cannot display a satellite map when pressing V. Interesting :grinning:

Yup no detailed map, no 2d cockpits, no multiwindow support, no helicopters, no warbirds (well now but not at release), and a whole lot of other things that they removed oh yeah another biggie , no classic camera views (alot of people are really upset over this one)… ;p

As mentioned, little nav map does a good job and will give you the information you’re looking for. Works well on a second monitor, it’s unfortunate it no longer works in VR

Little NapMap is certainly a good tool, but I want a satellite map INSIDE MSFS. Why is Asobo, partner of Microsoft, who owns Bing Maps, not able to program a nice map INSIDE the simulator? It is not even hard, all the have to do is make a call to Bing Maps, draw the map, draw the airplane symbol and that’s it.

There’s a map in the newest AzurPoly plane (Sokata) but I did not have a closer look yet as I was busy flying it.

Yes maybe they could use this map for the whole sim, for example when pressing V or M

VFRmap plugin eorks very well - separate window …

You can display LittleNavMap under VR using the InGamePanel Navmap from

Flightsimulator.me

Works pretty well for me. Not freeware but cheap, there are three payment plans.

Yes but the real issue for the topic is the ingame navmap it terrible. Its just another one of those things that used to be alright never great no sat map and all, and then seems to be dumbed down for MSFS.
