“The Aeronautical Information Regulation And Control (AIRAC) cycle is being updated with new navdata. (Cycle: 2202)”
I wasn’t sure where else to ask this… on XBox how can you tell if you received the update? I don’t recall seeing anything being downloaded at startup after it was announced and my game version is the same as it was after SU8. Also, is this an update that applies to everyone or is the data only used by people with specific add-ons?
There should have been a quick update found when the simulator searched for updates while loading. That you are asking the question means that this isn’t something you currently need to care about. Basically, the AIRAC cycles are scheduled moments in time where everybody in aviation updates their charts and navigation data so everyone is operating with the same information. However, in the simulator having updated navigation data isn’t necessary and the only time you would even notice is if you were using current charts and encountered a difference between what the charts say and the in-sim navigation data. By and large, the differences between in-sim navigation data and current navigation data aren’t going to be material. If you decide to learn Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) and want to try maximize the realism of your IFR flights, you may decide to subscribe to Navigraph and always fly with the latest navigation information. Otherwise, this isn’t something to worry about.
I had a fairly good idea of what the data was for from the NAVBLUE article.
While you’ve confirmed the data is used by everyone (i.e. not just limited to PC users or people with specific 3rd party add-ons) my question still stands. Others have reported actually seeing the update being applied. I watch my console during the Checking for updates phase and have not seen this update applied. So, it’s either so quick on the XBox the messages don’t have time to register like they usually do when I receive other updates or I didn’t receive it.
If the game version doesn’t change, and since XBox users can’t examine the files, how do we confirm we have received this update?
A simple check (as real pilots do this during their flight preperation):
Look on the ident page in the FMC. Here you should see at least the valid/effective dates (from-to). After that you know, what cycle you’re using or at least if you’re using the effective one - this is independent which provider you are using and on which platform.
Did PC users get a second update from Microsoft today? In any case I still do not have a 2202 update on XBox. After checking, did the full XBox restart and checked again. No joy.
Are there any XBox users reading this who did get the update?
I don’t think so. I haven’t been prompted to install any update. I think he’s referring to a different third party AIRAC data. MSFS uses NAVBLUE by default, not Navigraph.
