How does weather work and what should I use?

Hi everyone!

I’m very new to flying simulators and aviation in general, and I have a question regarding weather.

I’ve been using live weather for a while (let’s ignore the lightning bug for a few minutes) and while it does get the weather outside, it sometimes feels kind of innacurate? How does it actually work?

Here’s a scenario for example, a cyclone approaches from the sea (west) with rain and some pretty strong winds, would I be able to experience that if I’d take off and flew towards it? As far as I know it’s not as dynamic as that, or I might be wrong.

On the other hand, I’ve tried using REX weather force and while it does seem to get the weather more accurately (and seems to get cloud formations that aren’t shown with live weather, but it might be a placebo), however it tanks my FPS after a few minutes of flying to an unplayable degree and I also heard it just updates METAR once every few minutes so you’d get weather changes very suddenly in a very unrealistic matter.

So to give you a tl;dr
How does live weather and REX work and what should I use? How do I get decent weather with decent transitions?

Thanks for answering and sorry for my bad English
