With the continued development of MSFS2024 that can break addons at any time, how long do you expect a developer to continue to update an addon after release?
I would say if it’s still for sale in any store, it should be kept updated. Updates might not come as frequently, but it should remain usable in the current sim.
It also depends on what type of dev they are. Some have frequent updates because they are proud of their product and some can be frustratingly slooooow, if at all. research your dev before spending, that’s the wisest advice.
A better question would be when a developer stops updating their products, how long do they expect to remain in business?
Well, PilotPlus’ last airport (EGFH - Swansea) was just over 3 years ago. I can’t remember the last time it was updated. They still have their products on various stores, including the marketplace, and their website is still live.
Airports are different from planes. A plane is more likely to break than an airport or other scenery.
But really what I was implying was why would you buy from a developer who has broken products, and won’t fix them? If you buy their new one, how long do you have that before it too stops working? That was the gist of my statement.
Unless they are major airports with tons of money most airports do not have the finances to upgrade and change imo. Major airport devs at least need to keep checking if an airport needs updating.
There has to be a time when a developer has to stop updating an aircraft for costs or time?
If I was a developer I would charge extra after 5 updates to help me or run a yearly subscription service.
I would not buy an airport from you if that was the case. Imagine if all devs charged a sub! Who would consider buying as much 3rd party stuff? Only the super rich for sure.
