I just got this sim operational. It is phenomenal. What an achievement! bravo!
Anyway, I found I could have an AI co-pilot take the reins for a bit while I snap pretty pix. However, as soon as I do so, he turns back to the departure airfield and away from the destination I was working towards. Is there a menu I missed where I can tell her to keep on the current heading?
AI co-pilot Charlie is fairly unpredictable. He/she will follow a flightpath if you have loaded on or created it in the world map. There is no way to instruct Charlie to fly straight and level, or to head for a waypoint that’s not on a flight plan.
Be warned though - Charlie is a speed freak and will gun the throttles to try to get to the aircraft quoted maximum speed, even though that’s likely to seriously overspeed the airplane.
Lots of discussion on AI copilot on the forum and plenty of opportunity for development which Asobo have acknowledged. I only use AI co-pilot for taxi to / from the runway … Charlie can figure out how to navigate complex airports much better than I can. He/She usually gets this bit right.
I recommend watching a good tutorial on using the G1000 autopilot (P Gatcomb’s are outstanding: https://youtu.be/lTWyKdo8axI). Then you can plot whatever course you want, or just set the AP to heading / altitude mode for straight and level.
I think the idiot in the right hand seat must have come up through the pay to fly regime that was all the rage with low cost carriers a few years ago, he obviously blagged the interview with ASOBO airlines!
With the current surplus of very experienced Captains you’d think they could employ one to take Charlies seat!
Welp, at least charlie did excellent with the radio, and she kept us from lawndarting while I was faffing about with the camera. So yeah. Flying with an XBOX controller is not optimal, lemme tell you that.
