How to download recorded footage (PC)

I’m trying to find a way to download my recorded flights on msfs-2024 using the built in recording tool to use for my social pages but I can’t figure out how to do it?

Can anyone offer any advice on how I can get the footage off the PC onto my laptop or phone?

Thank you in advance

You need to play back your flight inside Flight simulator and record it using OBS.

You are not recording footage with the ingame tool, but flight data. So there is not footage to download. You need to use external tools to record footage.

Thanks for your reply, can you recommend a third party tool to use to record the playback footage?

Thanks, I take it by OBS you mean stream labs?

I would also recommend OBS. It is very similar to stream labs, but I find it a little bit easier if you only wanna record.

Just use twitch and export it.

Thank you for taking the time to comment, this is helpful and appreciated.

If I was a professional content creator I’d use an external capture device.
But those cost money (sometimes a fair chunk of it…)

The main benefit is that they don’t use any system resources. You just feed an HDMI signal in, record the video on its internal drive, then import the video into your editing platform.

As an Content Creator that had used external devices I can tell you, they don´t necessaraly are better.
Cheers

What don’t you like about them compared to capture software like OBS on the computer that you are flying on?

I’m excluding internal PCIe cards that do the same thing as the external devices…Those are perfectly viable options, but they still consume resources.

Mostly I’m talking about preferring a hardware encoder (other than your CPU or GPU.)

The external devices (elgato HD something) I had were more complicated to set up (HDMI hook) then the OBS Software solution and then the visual quality of the recordings were just not better. The device I had, could also only record/stream in 1080p. Maybe if you have an old graphics card, you could run out of power, but not on mid level (20xx, 30xx). And especially in the sim, where the graphics card is bored to death most of the time, there was no noticable advantage in hardware capture for me at all.

Edit: Nowadays I run a 4090 and I render and record full 4k resolution (no upscaling, but FG) 60 fps with 40kbps which is more then it needs to be, without any problems.

LOL at “graphics card is bored to death”

My 3090 Ti is like John Brown swinging a sledgehammer during flight.
It grunts. It sweats. It cries a little…
