I find if I open a Simbrief flight plan inside MSFS, it does not get put into the gtn 750? Also it makes the 750 inoperable. If I manually create a flight plan from the MSFS screen, it works fine?
Is that the normal behaviour? I’m using the free version.
Thanks for any tips.
You can import a Simbrief flight plan from within the GTN750. From memory, might not be exact, but: Flight Plan, Options, Import, From Simbrief. However, I’m not sure if you need a Navigraph subscription to do this or not. I periodically have to reauthenticate with my Navigraph account, so suspect you might.
Yep, per page 21 of the doc below, Simbrief import requires the Premium PMS50 GTN750. (Upon further thought, I don’t think you need a Navigraph subscription.) It’s worth it, IMO. I use the GTN750 in a dozen or so planes.
After almost 4 years of using the free PMS50 GTN750, I upgraded to premium. For ~$20/year or less (depending on plan) it is well worth it for the additional features. I never knew how much I would use the included Autopilot which works on most planes, and additional display options. Only wish they had a direct button back to AP from map.
OK I purchased, it’s good. But when I create a flight plan in Simbrief that has a route etc and I load it into the 750, it only shows the origin and destination airports and the GPS line on the map is a straight line between them? No waypoints show up on the map. If I hit “Preview” I see them?
I must be missing something obvious! Is it supposed to look like that? Thanks if you know..
Download and install the Simbrief downloader application. When you generate a flight plan in simbrief it will automatically download it locally to your computer. Then in GTN, go to flight plan, click on Simbrief import within the flight plan window.
OK did that, I now show the GPS line but its just showing origin and dest. airports, does not show any waypoints, like on the map in Simbrief?
Also when I click on FlightPlan in the 750 it only shows the origin airport (EGKK) and not the dest. (EGGP). I cannot add the destination either, it can look it up, but it wont add it.
How does the Simbrief downloader come into play here?
Thanks.. I’m so confused!
Thanks for confirming those steps. Yes, I use that method.
Here’s a weird one, I created a flight plan in Australia just now, and it worked for the first time (!)
Subsequent FP’s it sort of worked (showed the route on the map, but only showed one waypoint for example)
I’m doing more testing later today, thanks for the advice!
Some progress.. I emptied the Community folder and it worked.. so I have got it down to 4 freebie airports - one of those is the culprit.. holy mackerel!
The yearly paid plan is worth it I think for the GTN750. I’ve imported both LiLNavmap PLN and also Simbrief plans. The only thing to remember is with PLN you have to (per the manual):
“To import a flight plan, set its name to “fpl.pln” and drop the file into the “fpl/gtn750” subdirectory of the GTN750 package inside the community folder.”
I haven’t used the ingame Navigraph charts feature much, going to try it again tonight. I think it was causing some lag.
But overall I’m pretty happy with it. Well, probably until the yearly subscription comes due again
P.S. I use this with the Hype H145 helo payware. If you haven’t tried it, and like helos, give it a shot. It also has a “missions” app to do things like fire fighting with a bambi buckets, responding to accidents to medevac patients (Medevac version with 3 crew in the back who get out, evaluate patients, get the litter and wheel it over, and bring the patient back and load, then fly to hospital helipad from anywhere, inclduing your own city with and additional freeware), working for a logging company sling loading logs, missions to oil rigs, etc.. The devs are also very interactive on Discord where they post “beta” updates to the aircraft and answer any and all questions. The GTN750 is well utilized and looks good in this helo.
Thanks for the info.. I’m in good shape now with the gtn 750. I can create a flight plan in Simbrief, and import it directly into the 750. Works great now.
Lesson here is watch out for that Community folder!
Cheers
Should the PMS not be loading the altitude information from the flight plan? Any plan I import from simbrief doesn’t show any altitude information. Is this a limitation with the PMS?
