I was flying this evening and got a new runway from ATC. Instead of 22R, I was directed to 22L.
Easy, I figured, just change the arrival part in the flightplan with a new STAR.
However, when I made the change, the AP wanted to turn 180 degrees and go back to a new waypoint behind me. I decided to do manual heading untill I got the to LOC/APPR part and landed.
Next time, how can I work with the flightplan to define, what the next waypoint should be?
(When youtube has processed the video, you can see it at app 35:00)
This can happen due to the default flightplan manager, which we still use. We are working on a custom one. For the time beeing, if this happens, just switch to selcted hdg and fly the star ‘by hand’ or use the DIR TO function of the MCDU to direct the plane to the next wp making sense.
Another option, provided you haven’t already passed it, is to add the IAF as a leg after your previous waypoint prior to activating the approach. In my experience that works around 90% of the time to bypass the “turn back” bug.
