How welcome are Xbox simmers in the Flight Sim Community?

perfectly on point

My (Step)Dad’s birthday was this past Sunday; he would be 107 were he still with us.

He had a saying about topics like this, "You’re as welcome as the flowers in Spring."

He was a good man.

may he rest in peace. wise words

The way I see it, we should be rolling out the red carpet for Xbox users, seeing as there wouldn’t have been a MFS reboot if not for Microsoft’s latest console release.

And regardless of that, we just need to be more kind to eachother.

The demanding culture is something I have seen evolving all around me the last 2 decades. In a time were everything is one mouseclick away and brought to you on a silver plate (pre-chewed) on the front door the next day, the phrase: patience is virtue, can be forgotten sometimes. Not only at this or other forums, but everywhere!
A nice example is the release of the PMDG 737. I like they dont give a release date, something i learned not to do as well, the hard way in my occupation. Quality takes time. But unlike me there are a some people who dont understand this type of management / business. I rather wait a bit longer for quality than rush with poor and unfinished items (quality over quantity).
Anyway, I dont have the feeling that they ā€œdumbed downā€ MSFS for Xbox. What I do see and feel that the release of ā€œstudy levelā€ planes might be the job for 3rd part devs. Offcourse I have been a newbie as well, and when I flew the default 747 in fsx the first time, I was overwhelmed. When I finally mastered it a couple of weeks later, I was sure I could land a real 747 without any issue (How cute and ignorant [captain hindsight mode on]), untill PMDG released its first 737. Well that was a game-changer for me. A lot learned since than in many aspects of simming as well as lifelessons.
So in my opinion, MSFS has allready a lot to offer for many beginner, advanced and ā€œarcadeā€ users and 2022 has a lot to bring for the more hardcore simmer. So i cant wait until PC as well as Xbox players can use and enjoy all the wonders of the artists from the MSFS/Asobo team as well as the 3rd party devs.

Trolling is never an option, and will only create confusion, frustration or anger. And when that happens, the mod team jumps in again.
Anyway how much I care how much money people spend on their rig… to be honest: I dont care. Just like some people buy an expensive car. As long they are happy with it and dont get them in financial trouble: be my guest. And I must admit, some cockpit setups are really blowing my mind. Just magnificent pieces of art and Technic.
On the other hand some do have the money to get their ppl, but are medically not allowed or capable of doing that. Simming is a great way to compensate that. Also maintaining the license could be a pretty expensive and time consuming issue. Thats actually one of the reasons i quit real life flying myself. Just didnt have the time anymore. Simming on the other had, you turn on pc or Xbox do your inverted flying underneath the golden gate bridge in your 747 and make it 10 minutes later exactly on time for dinner without any ATC phonenumbers to call.

Iam flying almost my whole sim ā€œcarreerā€ on a laptop and 1 joystick. The reasons why? Because I have only 1 place at home where i can do my hobby. Its called the dinnertable. And my wife doesnt like a joystick, mcdu’s, trottlequadrant or other aviation related items in her soup. So no big real to life cockpits for me. My friend advised me once to get rid of the kitchen instead and switch to only precooked microwaved food with disposable cutlery. Well, probably you can guess how that conversation went with my wife at the same dinnertable i was simming 10 minute before… Trust me its still joystick and laptop for me…

So everybody has his/her story and Iam glad we share 1 same passion or hobby here and that is flightsimming

thanks very much. As i can see some took it as an attack which it is no way a form of, even after i clearly state its not a platform issue its a person issue. even after speaking highly on other pc users defending xbox users from the bad apples, and making it clear that this video does not by any means represent pc users as a whole,or flight community as a whole. but some will only hear what they wanna hear. it needed to be said and made aware of as it is happening. im thankful for such a positive feed back ive had from both sides.

I only had one guy get cranky with me, but that was because of the ā€œinternet problemā€.

What I wrote sounded one way in my head and he read another slant on it, so I just explained it was my bad explanation in the first place. Had no problems with any simmers at all.

Pretty friendly bunch.

I agree ! It is a good time to be a Flight Simulator Game enthusiast.

Exactly. No matter how much or how little one is able to spend, it is still ā€˜just pretend play’. Granted, real aviators can hone some of their skills, but in the the end it is still pretend. People are entitled to use whatever ā€˜toys’ will make their ā€˜make believe’ play-time enjoyable.

Apparently not very welcomed Asobo only release airports while master race pc gets everything day 1 ive seen countless others complain about the lack of planes while they release 20 airports every week even going as far as releasing 5 planes last week for pc and 0 for xbox not to mention them banning me and others who try and provide constructive criticism I used get on and fly everyday now all the friends I used to have dont get on its turned into a airport sim for xbox we get more information from 3rd party devs than we do Asobo

I respectfully disagree on a certain level with you about that. For sure its not real flying, but calling it a toy or pretend play platform, is in my opinion not enough credit to MSFS. I spend last couple of months many hours guiding people with the sim. I really like to give you a small insight that i havent had before when I started as a co-pilot on this forum or simming in general, in why people are using this sim:

  1. real pilots as a training tool (did it myself as well in the past)
  2. relaxing tool after a stressfull day at work (falling asleep with the engine noice trough there headphones/speakers)
  3. a platform to meet new friends because of covid restrictions in their country
  4. a way to for fill a long chased dream of becomming a real pilot because they never had/got the chance (in any way possible) to to this in real life
  5. a way to connect/interact with (grand)children via multiplayer that are separated for long distances
  6. a tool to help with geography and physics lessons for children
  7. a tool to help sick children see something from the world instead of just their bed
  8. etc, etc

As I have to watch certain movies with my wife once in a while I cant help to make the comparison with the movie ā€œthe devil wears pradaā€ where she gets a explanation what the magazine means and represents for some readers (couldnt find the part on youtube). and you could be right saying its just a piece of paper, on the other hand sometimes its just all a person has that keep him/her dreaming or pursuing their goal in life.

Wow this escalated in philosophy quickly lol

Like anything in life there is always a vocal minority that bicker. PlayStation on Xbox. Xbox on PC. PC on Mac. Best to just let them crack on and enjoy your flight.
my cousin is of the ā€œmasteraceā€ and I am on an Xbox, fly together all the time, love the game, frustrating with bugs at times but amazing experience and thankful that I can partake. I’d argue he has a greater time, full virpil hotas and VR, and endless addons but, he’s in the open system that is the PC. But, Microsoft and Asobo released it on the console so you are as welcome as a PC user is in my opinion.

The only bug bear, and I can completely understand is if you are a dedicated simmer, have spent ££££ on setups someone comes tanking along and buzzes you in a hornet taking away from your realism. And being honest, with game pass, thats most likely an Xbox user.

ALL 100% welcome. Anyone who says or acts differently should score some sort of penalty point! Some things are not negotiable. Cheers.

Seems like it was shortly before su5 and the Xbox release that I remember seeing this point being made now and then. An honest concern Which was directed at the developers and not users.

I wonder if the fact that so many PC users (including me) tend to also love the hardware aspects of running our sim, might be perceived as thinking too highly of ourselves than console owners who don’t have to give the attention to hardware that we do.

Or, that we PC users might be mistakenly perceived as high-minded because of the simple fact that the possibility is there to obtain stronger hardware capable of taking MSFS to a greater product than the limitations of a gaming console. But again, misperceptions.
