Huge increase in performance with new Intel i9 11900K!

I bet DX12 will be in the sim before Nvidia cards are available at reasonable prices/quantities.

I pretty much decided to hold off on a new GPU and put the money toward a PPL next month instead. I’m sure the frame rates and LOD will be much better anyway

Here’s another highly-biased review showing a ~20% improvement in MSFS. It’s a conspiracy I tell you.

Anyway when I get mine I’ll run some benchmarks so people here can not believe those too, lol.

People out here thinking a CPU at 1440p really matters.

For overall multi core gaming, AMD is the best CPU right now, but for us avid flight simmers, the 11900 is the best CPU for flight simulator. The only thing that would change this is if the code was reworked to become multi-core, but I can’t see that happening for a long time, if ever (it may improve, but the MSFS code is based on the old FSX code, which was written when multi core wasn’t really a thing, it was just starting).

12th gen may be better, who knows, but it seems to me to be more in favour of mobile use, it will probably be more for multi core use like AMD (with some powerful cores and some not so powerful more more economical with power draw), but this may not neccesarily, be better for flight sims.

So the reviewers are right, if you want an all purpose chip, AMD is best, but for flight simming, intel is currently the best. It also handles other games perfectly well.

Well DX12 releases this summer. So the 11900K would be a horrible investment.

Yes, there are a lot of unknown upcoming changes in the next year, Flight Sim going to DX12 and 12th gen intel, but 12th gen intel will likely need a new motherboard. It’s always the case though, waiting for the next big thing (as when 12th gen hits, they’ll likely be talk of 13th gen, and new AMD chips, along with 4080, it’s neverending haha).

Based on what?
From the couple of benchmarks I’ve seen that specifically test MSFS, the 11900K is behind the 5900X (even if the margin is small). Considering the 11900K seems to be a much worse value proposition elsewhere, and the 5900X being cheaper, then why pick the intel part?

Which tests are they? All tests I’ve seen place it as faster (apart from a few fake tests from a few weeks/months ago). That said, there isn’t much in it, and the 5900X is a great chip and the best choice overall. As long term flight simmers, we’ve always swayed towards intel, as, by and large, it’s the fastest for sims and that’s all we want it for. But on all tests I’ve seen the 11900 is faster on sims (not the 11700, of which there are many tests).

Plus the 5900X uses much less power and it’s cheaper, so I am in agreement it’s the better chip. Unless you’re obsessive about squeezing every sim frame from your PC. And for some reason, flight simmers seem to have a lot of money to blow on such things. Probably because we’re nerds with nerdy jobs

despite of all those negative reviews, all benchmarks for MSFS2020 have a clean winner :
And this is 11900K ( higher fps than 5900X, 10900 )

Clear winner?
It shows avg of 70FPS vs 67FPS for the 11900, agreed.
But look at the Low 0.1% (the dreaded microstutters); 19 FPS for the 11900K and 30FPS for the 5900X. I’d take a less (micro-)stuttery experience over 3 FPS max.

If you look at the benchmark LinusTechTips did, the 5900X wins out with 1FPS more over the 11900X.

Again, they’re very close, so calling the 11900K a ‘clear winner’ is incorrect, especially if you consider the 0.1% lows.

Here’s a screenshot from LTT:

I was not expecting a single boost from an i5 8400 to a 10700k on 1440p ultrawide. It sure did made a difference. The CPU defintely matters a lot in this sim. Maybe 4k yes GPU bound.

Yes AMD only with SAM enabled on a 6000gpu and faster memory. At the end of the day Intel still wins in gaming as you should know they still rely on higher clockspeeds. You seem to have such hate for INTEL and of right now they have been more on the budget friendly side over AMD and still beating them in some games.5900x is barely beating the 11900k in MSFS and atm cost more!

Never know what’s just around the corner.
I just bought a 3070 I9 10x system arriving any day now, but I’d go for something more powerful with a 3090 and retire my new system to the new stock market PC I need.

That is just not true. I have seen many tests comparing AMD to Intel with RTX3080 and still, AMD was stronger in some games and Intel in other was roughly 50/50. That made me decide to go with 5800x. I do not care Intel or AMD at all, just went with a better chip.

Edit: I might add, one of those games that performed better on AMD was MSFS, which sealed the deal for me. rtx3080 performed better in 4k than 6800xt, which is why I went with RTX 3080 as well.

Nah, I don’t have any hate for intel, I just don’t like their current ‘flagship’ CPU. I don’t like false information.

The 11600K in contrast seems to be great value for money.

Possibly Intel just wanted the 1st place on single Core benchmark again, beside that i agree also that Rocket lake didn’t bring anything new in the table.
I dellided with my own hands my 8700K and reached 5.2ghz with high temp 73C on full load. Never had any blue screen , stability on 100%.
I have many friends that repairing PCs, guess which setups have many issues on stability, freezing screens and when comes to overlocking …chaos!
As i have 3090 Asus Rog Strix OC with 8700K , i am thinking to buy the Rocket and then attack again in 2-3 years when new stuff will be established more ( Alder, ddr 5, RTX 5090 etc)

I believe Intel’s advantage isn’t at the high-end series for this sim. It is the i5-11400F and the i7-11700F coupled with cheap B560 motherboards. Waiting for benchmark or these 2 CPU going against Ryzen 3600 and 3700X.

Sorry. But a 20 percent increase at 30 fps is 6 fps.

Hardly HUGE, and definitely not worth the 1000 bucks to upgrade from an earlier platform.

I’ll wait for 10 or even 7nm.

You’ll get more than 20 percent by turning down one or 2 sliders, a notch.
