Humidity slider in custom weather not working

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue: I fly usually with custom weather settings. Mostly with few clouds. There is always a certain haze in the air, which cannot be altered with humidity slider. 1% humidity or 10% humidity, always the same haze.

Provide specific location or coordinates:

Provide time and date of the observed weather issue:

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?

Also discussed here: Unlimited visibility?

Same here, not working and never did in FS2020 as well since it was introduced as a replacement for the then perfectly working aerosol slider.

Even with this being fixed. Will it be possible to layer the visibility? It won’t be much realistic to have a low visibility at higher altitudes. This doesn’t allow to reproduce real weather situations like inversion layers etc.
I saw this in some videos but probably live weather only.

Same here. Still not fixed.

I can confirm the humidity slider in MSFS 2024 is broken - please fix.

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:

The humidity slider in the weather settings has no effect anymore.

Did you experience this issue before you joined the Beta?

Not sure. I don’t recall when It worked the last time. It definitely should work, though.

Provide specific location or coordinates:

Anywhere. Try manually adjusting the humidity in the weather settings. Observe no change in visibility / moisture in the air.

Provide time and date of the observed weather issue:
Always.

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

Yes.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?

Always.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Load a flight anywhere in the world
  2. Go the weather settings to set a custom weather condition
  3. Adjust the Humidity slider = no change in visibility / moisture in the air.

YOUR SETTINGS

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

What peripherals are you using, if relevant:

[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it?
Yes. No changes.

[PC Only] Many issues may be due to an outdated graphics card. Please state your Graphics Card Driver Manufacturer (NVIDIA, Intel, AMD) and Version:

NVIDIA RTX 4080 Super, 566.36.

[PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share?

When you say that humidity setting doesn’t work, what effect are you looking for?
Relative air humidity doesn’t have any direct effect on visibility.

At close to 100% relative humidity visible fog can start to form, but that requires many other factors to combine, like temperature (and temperature difference of neighboring air masses), pressure difference, etc.

You can read the details of fog formation here

In FS2020 you can see a difference. Example at KSEZ:

FS2020, Few Clouds preset, Humidity 2:

FS2020, Few Clouds preset, Humidity 20, slightly different colors/lighting:

FS2024, Few Clouds preset, Humidity 1:

FS2024, Few Clouds preset, Humidity 10 (that’s the max value in FS2024), no difference at all:

Then I would say they fixed it. What was the temperature in those pictures? Humidity in itself should not have any impact on visibility. You might see a haze or fog with high humidity, but that is dependent on other conditions as well.

Temperature: 15C, pressure: 1013mbar.
In FS2020 screenshots I don’t see a difference with the visibility, it is more likely the colors that are affected, image is not so neat.
Do you have any suggestion of conditions where we should see differences when moving the humidity slider ?

In 2020 the humidity setting (previously called aerosols) determines the density of particles in the air which does affect the visibility/amount of haze.

In 2024 there are zero visual effects when changing the setting.
Clearly it isn’t working and needs to be fixed.

This is really a 4+ year old issue that has been there since the inception of MSFS 2020. The devs don’t care. They have “fixed” it with an ugly metar circle for live weather situations, and when you use custom weather, you wont ever be able to set RVR/visibility like other sims can.

Hello, Did anyone notice if they fixed the humidity slider yet in SU2 beta? I sure hope something can be done about his. The only way i can lower visibility is by rain or snow under the clouds and not the humidity itself. Please fix this Asobo.

Thank you,

Kurt
