Hi everyone! ![]()
I’m the developer of Avionics Buddy, a companion app I’ve been building for Microsoft Flight Simulator, and I’ve just released something I’ve wanted to add for a while: downloadable Mission Packs and Challenges.
The idea is simple: choose a Mission Pack, fly its route in MSFS, complete the required landings, and earn an award when you finish the challenge.
There’s nothing to activate before a flight. Once a Mission Pack is installed, Avionics Buddy automatically recognizes when you land at one of its mission airports and records the completion. So you can just fly normally — the challenge progresses in the background.
I wanted the first packs to offer completely different kinds of flying, so there are 5 available to download right now:
Conspiracy Challenge — follow a route through Area 51 and other secret airfields
Chinese Mega Cities — Shanghai, Chongqing and Shenzhen
Pharaonic Challenge — a journey across Egypt
Sur de España Challenge — fly across southern Spain
Bush Flying Highland Route — seven landings across Papua New Guinea
The Papua New Guinea route is probably my favorite so far. It starts at Hewa on a tiny 1,969 ft grass-and-clay strip, works through the Highlands, and eventually takes you down to Madang on the coast.
What I’m particularly excited about is that the missions aren’t hard-coded into the app. Each pack is a downloadable .avmission file, so I can keep publishing new routes and challenges without waiting for another Avionics Buddy update.
All five Mission Packs are free to download here:
Avionics Buddy Missions
If you already use Avionics Buddy, update to v1.4, then go to Statistics → Challenges → + Add Mission Pack and select the downloaded .avmission file. That’s it — once installed, just go fly.
I’d also really like to make some of the next packs around routes suggested by the MSFS community. If there’s a part of the world, a difficult approach, a bush route or just a wonderfully strange airport you think would make a good challenge, send it my way.
Happy flying! ![]()
