Generic, but donât take that as meaning at all representative. The model matching in this sim is shockingly bad. Itâs usually one of 2 aircraft a Bonanza or an airliner. So if itâs nothing like either of those be prepared to be disappointed.

Itâs annoying when you see another plane taking the form of a Bonanza. Itâs super annoying seeing a helicopter taking the form of a Bonanza. One of the reasons i use multiplayer a lot less these days.

If the volocopter is not installed, it appears as a 747. I may have to install it just to avoid this.

That is a big, big bummer.
One of my biggest motivation for multiplayer game is show my aircraft to my friends.
Moreover, this is a bad marketing strategy! Iâm quite sure that people seeing other peopleâs aircraft would make it easier for them purchase the models they like.
I hope this changes soon.

It has not been an issue to change yet⊠seems Micro/Asobo is not that into Model Matching.
I agree, I hate seeing an airliner or a Cessna screaming over the runway and Mach 1.2.
Model matching in the sim is HORRIBLE⊠Oops..I should say, somewhat non-existant.

Think about it logically guys. In order for that to work, everyone would have to have the same content. How many people would complain if they were forced to download all aircraft (even if they werenât flyable) to appease those who had bought it so they could be seen in MP. How would that work? Everyone would have to have TBâs of storage and have it filled with content they didnât want. Some would argue its bad enough already with the default aircraft

Thinking logically, they wouldnât have to have the same aircraft. They would have to have some relatively low LOD models of the exterior and interior, maybe exterior audio files. It could also be made a free item in the Marketplace (âAircraft Matchingâ) so that no one who didnât want this experience would have to worry about the additional storage space.

Surely a simple code would be enough.
Could content be categorised, and given a designation A = Liner B=helicopter C = GA
so at least a generic helicopter would appear on a helipad

Yes, thats a good idea, but the OP was wanting his friends in MP to see his aircraft. There are enough default aircraft to match with basic types, so thats a good call. 
The way the sim non-handles mp modelmatching is frustratingly disappointing.
Itâs not even that you need to own the aircraft that needs to be shown, it needs to have the exact same livery and version number too as far as Iâm informed, else the model matching simply will fail.
I would encourage everybody to press on for this issue, vote at the respective wishlist/bug topics, create new ones and spread the word. Seems like that no change will happen if not enough people press for that this issue gets solved and to date Asobo hasnât shown any interest in the matter.

This has always bugged me.
Even if you do have the same aircraft as a friend sometimes it still shows up generic. I have all the CowanSims helicopters, but if Iâm in the H125 and my friend is in the 500E sometimes it shows up as a bonanza. Only when we are both in the same aircraft will they both show up. Iâve been told this is because I bought mine on the Market Place and they got theirs through another retailer (Cowan themselves or Orbx.) So not only do you have to buy the same aircraft as your friend you also need to purchase it from the same source to see it.
If Forza can let you put stickers all over your vehicle and customize paint and make all that visible to multiplayers, why canât Asobo/MS?

Because all the content for Forza is already on everyoneâs local disk. Itâs just some flags and a small âtext fileâ type of thing to synchronise the position and layout of players customisations.
With MSFS itâs different. Itâs all mods and all the Config files probably vary a bit from vendor to vendor. But yes there definitely needs to be a fallback to at least retain some sensible end result for us as users. That would still rely on creators including the correct information in their files though so nothing is going to be perfect. There must be a better way though!

I totally get that!
Maybe one day that will be a marketplace requirement for devs. To have a multiplayer model of one livery that will appear to all players in the sim. So, if itâs on MP everyone can see it because MSFS/Asobo has obtained that data.

Exactly the same ? Maybe MS/Asobo should, at the minimum, provide a very low LOD of the exterior of a fighter jet and if I didnât have that exact fighter jet then give me the low LOD replacement. At least it would be a fighter jet screaming low over the runway at mach 1.2 instead of a Cessna !

This affects the ENTIRE MSFS Community, not just a few vocal complainers ! Yet, nothing appears to be in the works for model matching. Super Annoying.

When I purchased the sim and ran it for the first time, I can remember just how disappointing it was to find out that if you were going to fly with your mates or purchase a super-duper aircraft ⊠no one will see anything, what a disappointment, even worse if someone DID have the same aircraft it STILL never showed?
I then was naive enough to think that at least you will be seen piloting a matching Asobo airframe of at least the same physical size because that is the POINT of a Simulation ⊠TO SIMULATE just how wrong can one be.
Busy airports just resemble a " Circus Act in Town " I have switched off everything now to try and bring back some sort of sanity to the Sim.
