I will only buy FS2024 if these things are true->

In no particular order:

  1. Air traffic - AI traffic/Computer traffic behaves fairly realistically. In FS2020 it was absolute chaos, or it was just nowhere to be seen. The schedule seemed totally random, there was no relationship sometimes between the airport and the activity. The two same boring ugly looking models/fake airlines would keep landing, and they would land in a completely bizarre unrealistic fashion, often coming in at super high slopes, hitting the runway super hard, not even at an angle so it was totally bare minimum animations, often going the wrong speeds, or slowing down or speeding up way WAY WAY too quickly, getting off the runway <1/3rd of the way down where in reality it would typically be 2/3rds of the way down. Planes would sometimes not even land, just hover over the runway and then go somewhere random and disappear. Sometimes planes would land at the same time, inside each other, or basically touching each other. Or take off and land at the same time. It was just ATROCIOUS. I was very upset by it.

  2. Sound engine- Planes flying past actually sound sorta realistic, not just like something out of a cartoon. Often a plane flying past would sound like a horrible rumble of completely arbitrary noise rather than a plane flying over. There was little to no accurate doppler effect either. Eventually with a later update they added some more realistic noise of a jet engine, but it was WAY too loud, distorted, and didn’t really make sense relative to what the plane was doing or where it was located relative to you. Also I noticed which really got on my nerves, there was always this tinny, out of phase ambience/reverberation/delay that attempted to make the planes sound like they were in a space, or environment, but it ended up just sounding really odd and also, there seemed to be a transition zone, where planes would suddenly reach a distance at which they’d transition into this new atmosphere/space and go from an engine propeller texture to a wishy washy reverbed noise that didn’t sound real at all, very odd indeed. On a side note it would actually be quite nice if planes flying over at like 20k feet or 30kft would actually produce a feint gentle noise of a plane flying over, it could simply be a recording from real life, it doesn’t have to be a complex artificial sound.

  3. Cars on the road behave fairly realistically- In fs2020 and from what I’ve seen in fs2024, cars fly around at all the wrong speeds, in all the wrong directions, on top of each other, inside walls, over bridges, under water, and never slow down for intersections and go like over 50 mph down virtually every street there is, even if it’s a 10-20mph zone or 30mph street. I’m not soo worried about the low poly 3d models they have, however I would say they could do with a bit of an improvement, maybe in terms of variation or in terms of having some more varied vehicle types like some transit vans and some big and medium sized lorries or even buses, imagine seeing london buses in London! That’d be awesome.

  4. Render distance of other players/plane models- In fs2020 depending slightly on the size of the airplane model, there was around a 2km max range at which a plane would render. Only I think the 747 or the A320 would render passed 5km and often not even that. I just want an option to increase the render distance a bit, I don’t mind if I lost a tiny bit of FPS, but its so immersion breaking to see your plane disappear after a couple thousand feet (if its small), and especially if you want to film cinematic shots of your plane flying over hills or into the distance or up into the air high up, or you just want to feel like the world is alive beyond a mile radius.

  5. Building generation/Building models- I’m going to have to say that the buildings in fs2020 were just for the most part, quite atrociously poor and ugly looking, and unrealistic in size and shape and type, and even though after you got above 10kft, you couldn’t really tell they were bad, it still didn’t look all that brilliant. All I really ever wanted is for houses to at least look like they belong in the area. It would be more important to get the house to look right for the general city/region/area it’s in. I think fs2020 would have even looked better if they’d made like 10 accurate models for each country of typical houses and had AI just place them where it seemed good to place them. It wouldn’t necessarily be accurate in terms of locations, but at least they would they would look like they belonged there and it would visually look right, and if you weren’t from the area or familiar with the area, you wouldn’t know it wasn’t the way the houses looked on that street. I really believe the 3d buildings in fs2020 were an abysmal failure, they made me sick whenever I looked at them, big cities often had virtually zero buildings that looked like they belonged there, or they had 100s of thousands of 1 story bungalows where in real life there was basically only about 2% as many bungalows and more like 98% 2-3 story houses. If you’re going to allow people to walk around in FS2024, it seems reasonable that you’d want to make houses and buildings look more like they could be real. They don’t have to be super realistic, super high res, super geographically accurately placed, but what matters is that they look like they could be real, or fit in, and in fs2020 hardly anything looked like it fit in at all, everything looked all the wrong colours, wrong shapes, styles, textures, everything looked muddy and boring and simplistic and weird, and not natural or like it fit in. I would honestly buy fs2024 if they got this right, JUST for the sake of walking around on foot, not even for flying, thats’ how important that one is to me.

They’re not true, so I’d recommend saving your money and avoiding massive disappointment.

Good lord! Don’t even think of buying MSFS2024
or any other sim, for that matter

2, 3, and 5 have seen improvements.

Air traffic and models are a mixed bag, and may be a System Update or two out from being to your liking.

It is hard to recommend any sim to anyone who will only buy it if those 5 conditions are met. I can think of no vanilla sim in existence that meets all of your listed conditions to your stated liking.

Maybe fly real planes? :woman_shrugging:

Yeah

uhm, “Shirley, you can’t be serious?”

No simulator ever has met or will likely meet your expectations.

lol, you’ll be lucky if you even get one of those on your wish list! Personally I’d like a sim that works

Don’t bother. None of your wishes have come true!

1: ATC is still a mess, they said few month ago a new ATC will be available in the future, but It’s still 50% of the time horrible, but I thinks the way it manages sids and stars is a bit better, on career when I have a mission with departure and arrival available ATC 99% of time respects altitudes and speed

2: Sound is a bit better for me than 2020, however not on all planes

3: Cars and generally all the roads has been improved, it’s not so perfect but assurally better
Lights has been added to cars and it looks so much better

4: Render distance and LODs of plane and almost every objects in 2024 has a major issue, it has to be fix its a big problem right now

5: Autogen has been improved but still not perfect, size of houses and building is ok for me, but the big deal is the size and location of the trees
All content from world and city update is now streamed live on the game, so you have a huge amount of photogrammetry in the world, at game launch it was a mess, but now for me photogrammetry looks great, in 80% of covored cities I visited

I just want to tell you both good luck. We’re all counting on you.

Other aircraft in the sky.
5km is a bit close for a heavy jet. 3 miles and it’s well visible.

TBH, what are you doing so close?

Live Traffic.
I live 4 miles from BHX in England.
Live traffic shows up on the VFR map, right on schedule.
When there is a Runway 15 departure, it can be seen on the VFR map and heared through the window ?
I’m 5km from the flight path and an A320 is as clear as day. The passengers are waving. The A380s are incredible. About 14:00 every day. Bike ride to the viewing area if I want on a summer afternoon. ( I’m retired ).

Now FS2020 has ‘D Airspace transit’ in the ATC options, I have to know the flight schedules for BHX to time my transits.

PS.
When the Vulcan at Wellesbourne does an accel and taxi, it is on VFR map and spawning on MSFS at EGBW, it is a yellow and orange default A380 four engine jet.

Ok, anything else
 ?

AI traffic is pathetic and won’t be fixed anytime soon. Gliders, hot air balloons and small GA planes spawn at terminal gates with jetways. You will see EasyJet or Wizzair A320 in New Zealand or South America. AI very often spawns in your parking spot. Anyone who thinks this will be fixed next patch or two is delusional. Thankfully there is a 3rd party solution called Beyond ATC.

Road traffic is still terrible but it does not bother me too much.

Procedurally generated buildings are ok, I’ve never had issue with this in MS2020.

Based on your list, youl should forget about FS2024 or any simulators in the market for that matter.

  1. Air Traffic - you’ll need to leverage a 3rd party that gives you better immersion. Not sure why this is a deal breaker if you know how to fly the procedures and just turn off ATC.
  2. Engine sounds - Most airplanes are good enough. The only problem is the streaming technology employed by MS/Asobo is horrendous and you can have missing sounds, lights, panels for no good reason.
  3. Cars? I don’t care about them and not sure why anyone would if you are flying at the flight level. Even VFR, I don’t know why that’s a show stopper.
  4. Don’t know about this.
  5. You won’t get this. MSFS 2024 is better than MSFS 2020 but not by much. The streaming technology once again makes it awful. Many buildings that appear clean and crips in MSFS 2020 are looking like ghosts buildings.

So you can save your money and go elsewhere, I’m afraid.

To the OP all good thoughts
If and when any of them will be to your liking - NO IDEA!

I bought FS2024 spent a lot of time getting it working and then decided to go back to FS2020 for the present time until FS2024 gets “fixed”.

I sympathise with you but I don’t know if or when these items will be “fixed”. FWIW

I will only buy 2024 when:

They give us the option to download and store content like we had in 2020 to ease the streaming load.

They iron out a LOT more of the ridiculous bugs people have posted.

When the PMDG 737-700 is certified by PMDG that it is 100% working with 2024.

As far as ATC and traffic goes, I don’t hold any hope of Asobo getting that right, if ever. I mean, they never did with 2020. lol. So I would be using BATC like I do with 2020.

Default ATC in flight sims has always had room for improvement. I’ve been in the hobby of flight simulation since 1997 and have been using nothing but online networks for my ATC since 2009 in many sims.
