ICAO ATC Phraseology mod for FS2024

I finally found time to make a FS2024 version of my phraseology mod.

This mod will greatly enhance the ATC phraseology used by the default ATC system if flying outside of the US. Within the limitations of the in-sim ATC, this mod will be as close as possible to standard ICAO phraseology.

This mod however only changes what is being said and how it is being said, it does not solve bugs or limitations in the default ATC system.

It also no longer changes the text of ATC Menu options as these are now 2 separate files in FS2024. For example, the ATC menu option still shows “REQUEST FLIGHT FOLLOWING” instead of “REQUEST FLIGHT INFORMATION SERVICE’

I made a basic ICAO-EU version and a UK version for the UK pilots among us with a few subtle differences:

  • “Flight Information Service” changed to “Basic Service”
  • “Radar” changed to “Control” i.e. “London Control”.

If preferred, you can open the file in text editor, search and replace “Basic Service” with “Traffic Service” or “Deconfliction Service”.

Known errors:

  • At airports without ATIS, the initial IFR clearance request is skipped.
  • Requesting approach with landing runway opposite to runway assigned by ATC causes CTD (this is a FS2024 bug and will happen with or without this mod).
  • Overall the FS2024 ATC is a regression over FS2020 which in turn is a regression over the FS9 ATC system, some functionalities got lost from 2020 to 2024, the ATC window blanks and flickers when there is a new transmission. This is all unrelated to this mod.
  • FS2024 does not offer radar vectors (just as FS2020 doesn’t offer radar vectors), “radar vectors” therefore replaced with “own navigation”.
  • SU3 beta introduced an error where “underscore” is pronounced between airline id and flight number, SID and STAR names, waypoint names and aircraft type. To prevent this, switch off “use authentic voices”.

Should you come across any oddities, please post a screenshot below and I will have a look.

Installation is very straight forward with FS2024 since ATC is now a separate file and folder. Just download below, drag and drop. Exact instructions can be found below:

Good luck CaptainRude  :sign_of_the_horns: Is it fs-base\en-US.locPak again? We need to download it at My Library to modify i am guessing?
edit: Oh it is on X:\XboxGames\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024\Content\Packages\fs-base\en-US.locPak No need to download.

There is a new folder named fs-base-atc so it will be quite easy to mod, no PowerShell scripts anymore, just download and overwrite the locPak file.

That’s awesome! Have a great day!

Terrific news! I’ve really missed this mod in MSFS2024, looking forward to using it again. :+1:

I just managed to run the script for the first time without errors, I haven’t opened the sim yet. Maybe I will have some time tonight to do a first test.

First little success:

I got VFR pretty much ironed out and my first IFR flight worked quite ok, still some things to work out. But there is progress

I have to warn though, the MSFS2024 ATC system is a steaming pile of garbage. I don’t understand how, but they did manage to trash it even further. I get epileptic seizures of the ATC window blanking and flashing every time there is transmission.

Sometimes they talk through eachother. When you ESC with live traffic active and then resume it will play ALL the transmissions you’ve missed during your absence but cutting them off half way. As if the ATC system paused and now has to play catch up.

Asobo, how? The FS9 ATC system was more functional and less buggy, it was able to provide radar vectors for approach just to name something. No progress has been made in the last 5 years, absolutely none
 The opposite actually.
