I was looking at some of the illustrations in the postings and I had an idea for “adventure flights” or “whatever you want to call them” flights:
Television show based flights.
The idea is that you’d try some of the flying, airplanes, adventures, or whatever from various flight-related television shows - Sky King from the 60’s being a prime example though I am sure there are others. (As a kid I always thought Sky King was totally the boss and he always had the coolest aircraft.)
Flights from Mayday and Air Crash Investigation are entirely optional.
(And might be forbidden here. . . .)
@Jimrh1993 Have a look at sites like FlightSim.to. There, you’ll find many flights and scenery based on fictional and historical adventures (though on more of the latter than the former).
I don’t recall seeing any flights that recreate adventures in fictional movies or TV shows. However, you can find at least one flight that explores locations used in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. There are also a few add-ons that recreate scenery from MASH and some James Bond films like Octapussy.
It may not be exactly what you’re looking for, but you might also want to check out how the Giza Pyramids appeared when they were first built, or wait a few weeks for the release of Hadrian’s Wall 180.
My apologies but this was not a request for a new feature, neither was it a request for information.
This is simply meant to be an “idea source” for a new “theme” for adventures inspired by @ZILLNIAZI17’s interesting flights.
People seem to enjoy themed flights. While reading about other flights I thought this would be interesting. Instead of search and rescue missions, how about the airborne detective?
Another thought:
“Geocaching” in MSFS where you go to place “X” and have to land and then find feature “Y”. (i.e. A particular restaurant near the Eiffel tower in Paris, etc.)
Aerial archaeology is one that I want to investigate as part of our scenery development. As a first step, our reconstruction of Hadrian’s Wall is now available.
It would be nice to have a video of the flight for those of us who are in time zones where the flight would be at 04:00 local time, (), and waking up the granddaughters is NOT an option!
Or, for those who want to watch it after-the-fact. . .
Maybe something along the lines of geocaching would be interesting? Especially in MSFS-2024, (when they get it working!), where you can, (supposedly), go outside and wander around, 'eh?
If you do custom geologically/historically related scenery, (and you know where all the Easter-eggs are hidden), you could combine a curated flight with a scavenger hunt.
That is also a really good idea! We will have an Easter Egg or two in the full release of HW180 and are working on a set of twenty Iron Age Hillforts as our next release.
They are being built for 2024 with the intention of allowing you to land outside, walk up into them and then walk into selected buildings to explore them.
I could imagine a challenge that involves flying to a selected fort, landing and then running up inside to get to the right hut and a specific object inside.
I have created an adventure based on a book (although following your idea of TV shows), “Land of men” by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (author of “The little prince”). It recreates the route that Henri Gillaument did when he crashed and spent 5 epic days walking through Los Andes in winter to reach civilization. The flight is epic and one of the most fun I have ever done in flight simulator. Here is the video briefing and it includes maps, add ons and other information for you to live the excitement of flying through corridors and valleys of Los Andes to cross between Chile and Argentina as the mail aviators did in 1930s. https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/RIGYn6CuFiA
