iFly 737 MAX Discussion

Knock on wood, I have never had a WASM crash or freeze in MSFS 2024 in any aircraft. I intend to fly at least one leg in the iFly Max this morning, probably a medium/short route like MDW - BNA. We’ll see how it goes.

Yes I’ll be interested if you manage it trouble free. I don’t have sufficient data myself to be conclusive one way or the other.

Had a good flight today with the Max in FS2024. Westjet WS59 from Dublin to St. John’s, about 4,5 hours across the Atlantic.

I just completed a fligh a little while ago - KMDW to KBNA, as I mentioned above. 90 minutes of trouble-free flying aside from not having my controls dialed in. I really haven’t flown the Max much in '24 so my control profiles aren’t right yet. But the plane itself flew fine aside from me being rusty with it.

Thanks. I’ll clear out my wasm files and give it another try. I might have been just unfortunate.

You definitely don’t want to have linear control responses for the MAX, it becomes way too sensitive. Once you get the curves dialed in and get used to trimming the thing, it actually is pretty enjoyable to hand-fly.

No need to tell me. I have lots of time in the iFly in 2020, just not so much in ‘24. I usually fly it with near-but-not-quite linear roll and pitch profiles but had not yet set those up profiles in 24 for the plane. But the biggest problem was I had failed/forgotten to bind TOGA to a throttle button, or Autopilot Off to a button on my yoke (both of which led to fumbling around at inopportune times). I also didn’t have my reverser bindings set up correctly for the plane so my post-landing rollout had some similar frustrations.

After the flight I did load back into the plane and spent 15 minutes at the gate setting things up as I prefer them and ensuring I had that profile saved and named so I can easily find it for future flights.

This will depend on controller more than the aircraft normally. I fly almost every aircraft type with linear profiles with no issues using a Fulcrum yoke which has the longest pitch travel of any off the shelf controller I know of. Makes a big difference to using a short throw joystick for instance..

I would disagree with using curves, ever, for any sim aircraft. It yields a very strange aircraft response, because sensitivity starts out at one level and then changes for the same amount of control throw over the range of motion. That’s not typically how aircraft controls are rigged or programmed to deflect.

If sensitivity is an issue, it’s usually better to tweak sensitivity or extremity dead zone settings.

Personally, I use a Thrustmaster Boeing yoke so nothing too special, and it feels really good with the iFly with a perfectly linear and non-adjusted control profile, for what that’s worth.

Had a nice flight from SXM to BGI yesterday with the Caribbean Max. Maybe I’ll treat myself by getting a Boeing yoke for Christmas, I have a (what’s it called) thin drawer under my desk so I hope it will fit.

Hopefully iFly one day will implement cabin announcements like Fenix (without using an app).

I would suggest you check out Universal Announcements. It is built from the Fenix announcer, and works just like it. There is also a Discord where people share their sound files (for Fenix, too!), and for support. It’s being continually added to, as well, and the best part is it’s free.

I know, however, I would rather not have another app.

Hi guys

When you compare this to fenix 320, is it equal or close to it? Graphics, details, simbrief implementation?

The plane’s EFB is a bit “old school”, but an upgrade is in the pipeline.
Loading is more difficult, as it doesn’t yet support the simbrief load, and has to be manually inputted in the plane’s EFB.
Other than that, very comparable.

The iFly Max8 supports Simbrief flightplan import. But the payload has to be entered manually but that is pretty easy.

You can’t display OFP in EFB which is the most annoying bit for me. iFly also performs a lot worse than Fenix, at least on my machine 9800X3D/4090.

It’s been quite a while since anything last came up on the status of the iFly update for the MAX. I don’t do discord, has there been anything put out there on when this will finally be released? I find myself flying the MAX less and less these days, mostly because I really dislike the old school EFB.

Unfortunately not.

Even if you did Discord, they famously don’t talk about future releases. Nothing there either.

I personally can live with the EFB. What really annoys me are the clickspots in VR - so I am also waiting for an update. It is not very usable in this state.
