IFR Flight Plan Way Points?

Hi All,

I know this is probably a dumb questions, I did look through the suggested discussions to the right of this box and unless I missed something I didn’t see anything this specific, as I don’t have a ton of time to sit and read each and everything thread at the moment. Plus I am not super computer savvy when it comes to searches on Google. I am on Xbox Series S.

Is there anyway to add way points for IFR low altitude flights? I understand not being able to add them within so many NM from the airport but one route I fly I am literally approx. 4 miles from something I would like to fly over (which is about half way in between the start and destination) and I was wanting to add a way point so that the navigation would fly me over it and then resume the pre-set up course for the ILS.

Thanks, Zac.

What airplane are you flying? Sounds like you’re on autopilot. You could just go into Beading mode and turn the heading big a few degrees in that direction to see what you want to see, and then when you want to get back to your flight plan hit “direct” to the next waypoint.

The C172 and the Diamond DA40. I am on autopilot, and that makes since, just use the heading mode to go where I need to go and then hit the “direct” button which is on the right side of the MDF and on the left of the menu key.

Hello, yes, there is a way to add way points for IFR low altitude flights.
Though the globe / map on which one does the planning has a ridiculous fault: EACH time one has to enable or disable the navaids, fix position report, cloud cover, view settings, etc. (MORE > OPEN FILTERS). No way to SAVE those as enabled or disabled as default, as it would be only logical.

Hi AC52399,

Okay, that’s what I thought - however, I am doing exactly as you are showing, but it does not add them, it just keeps the line that it has. I tried one flight with it after getting frustrated that it wasn’t showing and it just basically kept following the original line that MSFS had on the world map and just ignored the additions. So I am assuming either something isn’t right like a bug that needs fixed for the Xbox version or maybe it has to do with the G1000 NXi.

Just kike @AC52399 stated:

Well, most probably it has to do something to do with the Xbox…
I am on PC. Nevertheless, it is utterly absurd that one can not
save those filter settings as defaults.

There’s a mod for that…

You could try LittleNavMap.

It has all the world runways, with the ILS frequencies for all of them, a Metar report for every airport, and all the Navaids that are selectable.

It is also a moving map that shows your progress, plus a ton of other features.

I use this along with Skyvector for airport charts and approach plates.

I use KV10 which allows me to pull these up in the cockpit as needed in Fullscreen mode.

You simply create a flight plan where you want to go by choosing your departure airport, all your waypoints and then a arrival airport, and then export it to your MSFS 2020 directory (It knows where to place it) and then choose the Flight Plan in game.

Well thank you very much, I will give it a try!
Though sad once again that some good soul has to do
what Asobo is not capable of doing…

If you’re able to edit files, you could do this:
…8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Official\OneStore\fs-base\worldmap and look for the “WorldmapFilters.xml” file. Open that in Notepad or (preferably) Notepad++ and set what you don’t want to see to “OFF” and what you do want to “ON.”

Look for this:

TYPE_NAVAID
TT:MENU.WORLD_FILTER_TYPE_NAVAID
TT:MENU.WORLD_FILTER_TYPE_NAVAID_DESC
ONOFF
ON
FILTER_TYPE_NAVAID

And this:

	<FilterDefinition>
		<FilterID>TYPE_RNAV_FIX</FilterID>
		<Title>TT:MENU.WORLD_FILTER_TYPE_RNAV_FIX</Title>
		<Descr>TT:MENU.WORLD_FILTER_TYPE_RNAV_FIX_DESC</Descr>
		<ValueType>ONOFF</ValueType>
		<OnOff>ON</OnOff>
		<id>FILTER_TYPE_RNAV_FIX</id>
	</FilterDefinition>

and set OFF to ON:

Well thank you very much, I will give it a try!
This is indeed also an option.
Though sad once again, we have to do
what Asobo is not capable of doing…
