I am trying to fly B787 from Honolulu to Tokyo, but there is this strange bend in the flight plan that seems to route me back in the opposite direction I am heading and then it turns back towards my destination. Also the world map will plot the route with duplicate way points that I have to remove manually, but that doesn’t remove that strange bend.
Nothing to worry about. The lines on the flight plan get confused crossing over the International Date Line (or, at least I think that’s what it gets confused about). Also seems to happen flying across the Northern Atlantic as well (say, KJFK->EGLL). But the plane never flies those wacky routes, and just flies straight (more/less) towards its destination.
I can confirm what ChiTown said. I did Sydney to Los Angeles a few nights ago and it did the route perfectly. The world map had that return line but once in the plane, the route in the computer shows correctly. I would just review all your fixes on the route to verify there are no crazy turns before you leave.
