Ikarus C42B for MSFS 2020 – Now Available

Hi everyone,

We are excited to announce that the Ikarus C42B for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is now officially available.

The Ikarus C42 is one of the most popular ultralight aircraft in Europe and widely used for training and recreational flying. Our goal was to recreate the experience of flying this lightweight aircraft in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, with a focus on the feel of VFR flying and smaller airfields.

Features

  • Detailed Ikarus C42B aircraft model

  • Tuned flight behaviour based on real aircraft performance

  • Fully functional cockpit

  • VR supported

  • Perfect for grass strips, short fields, and VFR exploration

Please note:

This aircraft is only compatible with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 (PC) and **not MSFS 2024

Available Now**

The aircraft is available now on simMarket: simMarket: CLA - CHRIS LEARNS AVIATION - ICON IKARUS C42B - MSFS20

In-Flight footage

If you would like to see the aircraft in action, check out the flight video here:

The video shows the aircraft in flight and includes additional information about the project. We hope you enjoy flying the C42B and exploring the world of ultralight aviation in MSFS.

Feedback from the community is always welcome. Please direct support queries to the given email address on the SimMarket page as posting these here would be against the community rules.

Hey Chris, any discount code for those that helped on your beta testing?

Not compatible with FS 2024, or just not tested? Virtually my entire 2020 library of aircraft is compatible with 2024, so impressive accomplishment if it doesn’t work properly there.

Could you please post a better video and some pictures? I’m particularly interested in the interior and whether the pilot and co-pilot are visible in the exterior view. And of course, the sound and which aircraft functions are animated.
Will there be any updates to the textures and instruments in the cockpit?
As Editer already mentioned, I’m also curious to know if the C42 will work in MSFS 2024, as is the case with most 2020 aircraft.

Tested and currently not compatible with 2024 but this will change soon…..

Hi I will definitively post better video and pictures but please allow me some time for that as this is a side project and currently taking a lot of my time. Feel also free to subscribe to our Youtube channel as I plan on doing a love shortly with Q&A and also one in the future where I fly the aircraft so you can see it in action and ask questions.

To answer your question about the pilot and co pilot they are currently not visible but I will go ahead and tell this the dev team to be implemented in one of the future updates.

All instruments are animated and can be used with a mouse,

Textures and instruments updates will be implemented in one of the future updates as well.

As we are live with the C42 since about a week I wanted to address the issues and questions which have arose so far. I am therefore planning to do a livestream tomorrow March 20th 2026 at around 6.30–7 pm for sure on Youtube and possibly also on TikTok.

I invite especially the people with doubts and / or questions to join this live to discuss this further and get contructive feedback from the community in order to improve our “little red airplane” In order to get notified please subscribe to CLA - Chris learns aviation on Youtube!

I am sorry I missed the livestream.

I have been flying the C42 sim for a few days and perhaps I am missing a trick.

The throttle response appears very laggy to me.

Also I am not sure about the CG set up but I set the fuel load and use the %CG balance adustment so it is in spec.

However I find the sim for me does not emulate landing approach especially at round out as the sim just noses into the ground. The real thiing is easier to fly!

Unless I am dping somethning wrong?

Colin

Hi @ColinHJet

Thanks for the feedback and I will pass this on to the devs in order to have a look at it and fix it if necessary.

For the lives they are available on both YouTube and TikTok.

Thanks for that. I will check out U Tube.

:+1:

I think your enthusiasm is truly amazing, and you deserve respect for using your own money to make your dream of the C42 in Microsoft Flight Simulator a reality.
I hope you’ll recoup your investment despite the high price and the criticism. I’ll continue to follow your development. I’m still waiting for a version compatible with the 2024 edition.
Is there actually a paint kit available so that users can create their own liveries, or is that at least in the works?

I found that just like in the real aircraft trimming for ‘triangle’ approach speed makes for a nice round out, e.g. see my video from the Beta version testing

@Finnro you cannot believe how good this feels to read! Thanks so much. We went actually flying in real life yesterday (yes Abby too!) and therefore a late reply. As stated in the livestream a 2024 version will come out sometime soon so a little more patience and we are with you.

In regard to liveries I will put that on the “to do list” and we will work on that. Currently we want to have the airplane technically flawless and implemented in MSFS 2024 as a top priority.

This is great news. My daughter is learning to fly with the https://www.britishyoungpilots.com/ programme and they use c42’s as their primary plane. Is this going to be available via the in sim marketplace? She has an Xbox that she uses for practice and I would love to be able to add it for her so she can maintain familiarity.

This comment on the topic of Marketplace/Xbox is from Chris in the comments section of the video shown above:

“Hi! We are in contact with Microsoft to integrate this into the official ingame marketplace but we do not have a timeline at the moment”

Yes we are in contact and I am not able to give you guys a timeline. But believe me it is the MOST asked question anywhere and I will do anything I can to make this happen.
