ILS problem in FBW a320

Hi all, i try to plan a flight for the first time in de FBW a320. Selected the route, SID and STAR, but in the RADNAV screen there is no ILS.

What am i doing wrong here?

Marc

It will automatically populate when you get close to your destination.

You can program manually if you want to earlier.

In the MCDU before you select the STAR are you selecting an ‘ILS’ runway for landing (not VOR or RNAV)? If so, the ILS should self populate, if not, you should be able to put it in yourself.

But in instruction vids i see that there is from the start a name and frequenty of the ILS. Should that basic info not be there from the start?

I always use Simbrief, so not sure, but (I could be wrong) if you plan a route in the in game map I am not sure it populates the ILS. Like I said, I could be wrong. With Simbrief there is no preloaded ILS or STAR info, just the route.

This is directly from the FBW documentation, which is very comprehensive and searchable on their website:

Arrival ILS

With an ILS or LOC approach selected, the arrival ILS frequency should be automatically tuned correctly whenever the aircraft is at climb phase or greater and within 250 NM of destination. Ensure that we verify the ILS frequency when we reach the arrival phase of the flight - see Approach and Landing (ILS).

Yes, but you need to select your arrival runway with an ILS approach in the MCDU.

You might be confused since the ILS frequency can also be pre-populated for the “departure runway” at the start of the flight. The ILS frequency is used so that on take-off the FMA can display the RWY mode. What this does is the aircraft actually using the departure runway ILS to show the indicator on the PFD of the runway centerline, which helps you to takeoff under low-visibility conditions.

The reason why you may not see an ILS frequency at the start is probably because the SID that you use, for the runway that you will be taking off from, may not have ILS or Localiser installed. Without the ILS frequency for that runway at departure, the MCDU NAV RAD page will be blank.

But as you fly the aircraft over time, when you get closer to your approach, the ILS Freq will be prepopulated again with the runway that you’ll be landing to (if you select an ILS approach for the landing).
