This issue has been going on for years, and it’s clearly a problem caused by Microsoft and Asobo. I’m currently re-downloading the game, and it’s absolute torture. I’m downloading a 120+ GB game at only 12 Mbits/s! (around 1 MB/s), and I’m really tired of this. It takes DAYS to download the game. Everyone is experiencing this problem, and it’s definitely not a user issue. Microsoft and Asobo are deliberately limiting download speeds. This needs to be fixed immediately!
Take a look here. Hopefully it will help.
I was suffering the same problem and tried countless ‘fixes’ to supposedly improve the situation. Quite frankly none of the, worked.
In the end I took a punt and tried a VPN, despite saying I would not. I still think the use of a VPN should not be necessary however it has resolved the issue for me. Updates and content manager downloads now download at a decent rate. The checking for updates while the sim is loading completes within a second or so whereas it was literally taking a minute or so before.
I suggest doing a search online for VPN recommendations. If I recall correctly all that I looked at had a 30 day money back guarantee. I figured if it made no difference I would simple get a refund. While I still do not think it should be necessary the cost of the VPN is about £2-3 per month for a 2 year subscription. I intend to review in a few months and will likely try MSFS now and then without the VPN.
I use Netflix nearly everyday so I did start to wonder if my ISP was throttling my revive even though it is not supposed to be capped. But then no doubt there will be a get-out clause in the ISP under fair usage that no doubt gives them the right to cap speeds.
Anyway, worth trying a VPN if you have run out of other ideas.
Having to use a VPN shows just how terrible this situation is, because it means they’re applying regional restrictions on download speeds. VPN used to work for me too, but now it doesn’t anymore.
Also check with your ISP to make sure you have their latest equipment. I just recently discovered that the cable modem I had for years was obsolete, and not capable of handling the speed that I was already paying for. After the painful activation process on the replacement modem, my speeds nearly doubled on the Google speed test. Spectrum said I was paying for 400 Mb/s, but at one point, it came closer to 500.
Well, it seems I may have found the issue - for me at least.
After my previous post I start searching again for possible fixes, the below was tested using an online speed test, with my VPN disabled…
Download new drivers for my network adaptor from the manufacture - that did not work.
Restart the network adaptor - that did not work.
Plugged my network cable into a different network adaptor on my motherboard - that did not work.
Plugged the network cable into a different port on my router - BINGO!
Yes, it would seem there must be some kind of fault with my router or setting I have not found. But with the cable plugged into port 1 I get a download speed of just 15 mbps, in any other the other 3 available ports the speed goes back to where it should be at around 250-280 mbps!
I have also tested this with MSFS. The checking for update check now clears quickly… and I also downloaded some free content from the market place and had download speeds of around 170 mbps. Before I was getting just 2 mbps without the VPN.
So - worth trying different connections on your router/modem. NO idea what the issue is but using a different port on the router is working for me!
Hope this helps someone..
the last time i reinstalled, between the game and all the world updates and aircraft, and given that i work full time, it must have been about a week before i got everything the way it was before
i tried a few of the fixes, i didnt see any difference, i always download at between 0 and 12 mbps, thats just how it is for me
I will just count my blessings: reinstalled the game (for no good reason: don’t know what got into me!) a couple weeks ago. The basic 130-ish GB downloaded and installed in 1 hour 20 minutes. Optional content manager stuff (updates etc., around another 130Gb) in about the same time.
A little additional information…
I am in the UK and use Virginmedia as my ISP supplier.
My modem/router is supplied by Virgin and appears to be manufactured by Sagemcom.
because it means they’re applying regional restrictions on download speeds.
“They” would be your isp or your isp’s isp, depending on who you use…
