I love the mission but ATC has so many issue running form Runway incursion instruction to runway exist to giving you conflicting instruction to not understanding MSL vs Mission requirement that it’s impossible to follow 100% all of the ATC request well because it still has bad as it was in the FSX days.
I’ve done over 120 missions and as soon as you get into IFR VIP Charter mission, you will see how bad the ATC is in its full glory.
It’s a very important concept. It’s funny it’s taken this long to make a deal out of it, but it’s just another pain point revealed by everybody jumping into the career mode and being exposed to the lack of attention to these kinds of details.
It’s interesting, I had no idea until I just saw your previous post that it wasn’t a function of the sim.
I had assumed, incorrectly, that I would be able to set that when building a custom version of the airport and it was something that I hadn’t looked into yet.
I’m not sure that it isn’t taking some other aspect of aircraft performance in mind when assigning runways, but it’s not being done on the airport development side, to my knowledge. Maybe just checking length and whether it’s flagged as closed (which is too binary an option).
But case in point, the IFR checkride RNAV approach into Sumburgh, assigning a helicopter runway that technically makes it a circle-to-land, below minimums.
Also, my post about the ridiculously long taxi (possibly one of the longest possible in the game) at Travis AFB.
I also wonder if the Navdata take into account N/A runways for circle-to-land procedures. That could be a tough one. Many of them are N/A only at night.
Regardless of the back-end reasons for the AI’s confusion, how in the world do that pass QA?! Simply code the check ride to use a different airport that does work correctly for the scenario.
I can’t help but wonder if it’s getting erroneous wind info - that seems to be happening a lot in career mode. It’s possible that kind of thing wasn’t even present during the pre-release, just happened when everything got “switched on” together.
It’s totally possible, but I’ve seen the World Map auto-assign a destination parking spot for a helicopter when the sim knows I’m flying a C208.
Looking at how the static aircraft are just stuck in a complete jumble on the ramp, it seems like the sim is not able to differentiate between types right now.
I don’t know if default ATC will ever be good enough, but anyway there should be a way to use ATC addons l ike BATC (as will be with aircraft). Honestly I don’t think that’s easy to do, but at least being able to disable ATC scoring from career system.
I think there’s way bigger issues going on. And it’s hard for us to tell wha they are. As I pointed out elsewhere, the navdata is not as detailed as it was in FS2020. By about the first US world update, it took that long for KASH to get it’s navdata, along with many other airports. The same thing is going on today. I think one issue is that ATC doesn’t have all the data it needs. I’m going to imagine they have some big updates to do with navdata, and just didn’t have time to get it done.
Secondly, what happened with being able to choose what kind of landing you want to make? It used to be I could choose to either full stop or T&G. In my Freeflight flight, I didn’t have the choice to do a full stop landing. When I landed and cleared the runway, I didn’t have the choice to taxi to parking.
My guess is, we need to wait some for them to finish some stuff up. So, play around, but, don’t expect much of Career mode until they clean some stuff up.
