Improve the world map

I think this is very unlikely for an international product.

A sufficient number of borders are disputed, so drawing a line in a particular place would run the risk that the Sim is banned in particular countries. For that matter, countries disagree about which countries are countries.

Unless (as happens with some international products) borders are moved to placate different country audiences, in those countries, but that’s a good deal of work.

Exactly this.

There are many disputed borders. I doubt MS/A want the sim banned in some countries because the borders are in the ‘wrong’ place.

Bing Maps draws borders and labels countries: even contested regions…

I would like to be able to enable or disable State lines and International borders on the World Map when selecting a place to fly from/to.

Just a dream ! Would really love to see this implementation.

It would be good if there were country and city names, and borders, with an option to disable these from the map if one wants.

Country borders would be particularly helpful. Ditto if they could be added for states, provinces, administrative regions, etc.

And especially if they could be part of the default view vs having to enable them every single time like the current stupidly set up filter system.

I also “vote” for these things as well as add the options in the filter to the save file so we don’t have to change them every time.

FS2020 is an awesome work in progress, currently hooked on flying the Neo on short trips between interesting places and the world map is still a frustration. You can set filters for the map that help a bit but they are not persisted, have to redo them every time. Why not use a reduced version of Bing so that we are not forever switching to Google Maps? ILS frequencies in the airport details on the world map would be great as well, have to troll the web for approach plates.

2 BIG updates later and still no new world map or at least an improvment on the exisiting one

I’m interested in a better world map too. Often times I think I’d like to fly somewhere very specific… no chance of finding that on the world map, so a lot of alt-tabbing to littlenavmap etc to see where I am. At least give us the options to turn on and off place names etc.

Second the motion to save user filter settings. We’re getting flooded with POI markers and it would be great to turn them off and have them stay off

Agreed. I’ve also started to be annoyed by the non-persistent filter settings.

New Sim Pilot here. I was disappointed at the map as well. I was surprised there was no place names. I thought this ran off of Microsoft’s Bing Maps or something to that effect. I guess I expected something like Google Earth or Maps in satellite view.

Still waiting for it

We also need:

  • Much better (more detailed) coastlines on the VFR map
  • Much better rivers, lakes, canals and other inland waterways (i.e. more detailed) on the VFR map
  • The ability to set and save the filters we apply to the map, so they persist and aren’t reset each time

I’m glad I found this instead of starting a new thread! I’d love to see Country and State/Province borders. As it stands now, it’s not that hard to get “lost” when zoomed in tight to look for a small airfield.

I’d like to see also option to show where you’ve flown, saved flights superimposed onto maps, Favs highlighted for quick reference, only relevant airports shown for craft you are flying (option) Who’s flying and where, ability to call up map and change flight plan during flight,
