Improved aircraft selection and filtering

The props category is around 30 planes for me while “jets” are 3. Scrolling a long list of aircraft is tedious. Also, livery choices are not persisted.

I propose to move “ultra-lights” and “turbo-charged” into their own categories. Livery selection should be remembered for all planes. In addition, more filters like “era”, “speed” or “typical usage” would be nice.

Things like stock A320 and FBW should reside under the same plane entry and work as “variants” instead of being separate planes. I guess that would work as well for the upcoming snow and water configurations.

Lastly, a “favorites” or “most used” section would do wonders.

Just reiterating on it, similar sorting and filtering functions for liveries would help a lot. I use the beautiful Mega Pack 12 but it means having to scroll a lot

Good idea, please Asobo make “favourite” category

I would very much like to see the sim remember my choice of variant and livery. It is very tedious to always go and re-select both, and there are too many steps included anyway. It could be made easier, there’s a lot of empty space on the menu screens.

Side-scrolling is also a bit annoying on PC.

Could the aircraft selection grid be altered to save/retain the last used variant and livery for every aircraft in the grid?

For one, some of the liveries that the aircraft default to are not to my liking and I’d rather scroll through the list seeing them looking as I’d like.

In the case of the variant, some variants I’d use more than others. The C152, for example. I’d prefer the standard C152 over the Aerobat. I’d like the grid to remember that I last used the standard and have that be the default next time I choose that aircraft from the grid.

As it stands now, if I quit the sim and relaunch it, all the aircraft/livery combos I used in the last session have reverted to whatever aircraft/livery is the default for the category.

Agreed. Frankly, the aircraft selection menus are in dire need of a complete rework.

Clear regression from MFS2020, which wasn’t exactly a masterclass on UI design either.

And identification as well… (callsign, etc.) Have to enter those every time.

Agreed. Out of the entire sim, the aircraft selection UI is terribly designed and not at all easy to use. I am amazed the consistency of MSFS2020 wasn’t carried across right as I’d gotten used to it…

2020 still has a much easier to navigate UI because 2024 removed engine type filters for normal aircraft like Prop, Turboprop, Glider, Jet, Airliner, etc. and are now all grouped into one tab aside Helicopters. Selecting liveries without having to wait for lag and latency because they are streaming and rendering an aircraft from the cloud rather than storing the aircraft and liveries locally is also a pretty terrible decision to “save space” when their servers are bogged down. Also every single aircraft livery aside from their defaults have been bugged for me showing up as completely blacked out no matter which one I choose

This was working in 2020, now i have to select the same livery every time i run the sim. Hopefully this is just a bug that needs fixing.

Also put in a controls header aircraft configuration or preferably in the variation for control settings for that variation settable there. This would be better than trying to associate in the controls options panel. Also aircraft ID info should be configurable for each variation.
I like that the hanger is kind of all in one place now. But interior and freelock views are also needed.

Could you please ensure that the last plane and livery I selected are saved?
Currently, the correct plane is saved, but not the livery.

When I exit MSFS2024, I have to reselect the A321 with the White Livery (or any other).
If I don’t do this, it defaults to the New Zealand livery.

Not sure it’s a bug or a feature but when you use the same plane, it’s painful to reselect the right livery every time.

Thank you in advance

Agree.

Addition to livery, not sure if you are able to, but at least I am not able to retain the registration information (Cessna) set during Configuration. If there is any permanent place for the same, please someone let know. Don’t want to keep on adding it every time.

I did not try that, But will test.

I had the same problem as you.
I thought I’d done something wrong.
Now I guess the sim has the bug,

Adding my two cents as a livery creator:

Instead of a row of liveries to choose from (which, let’s face it, would be very long for a number of people), make it a grid style. Furthermore, maybe add the option to show/hide liveries?

Also, I’ve been trying to figure out how to convert my existing liveries to 2024 for paid addon planes and many show up as a different variant instead of being placed appropriately in the livery category. I thought it was a line or two in the aircraft.cfg file (ui_createdby, among others), but so far it’s a no go. What is it that would put my livery addons in the same variant as the default?

Indeed. I think in 2020 you could select to see only jets, props, and so on. In 2024 there is only the search bar which in itself is seriously poor. I think the minimum they could give us sliders for the values that already exist, like I would like a plane that has cruise speed between these values or something similar. Currently when you have a lot of planes, it’s tedious to find what you would like for this session.

Seeing as the current UI filters are lackluster, how about an option to hide or disable certain aircraft from the aircraft selection screen (addons and basegame)? I currently fly maybe 10 planes at most, why does the game force me to see 80 planes I’ll never fly?
