In Development - MiG-25 Foxbat by Aviasim/GKS

Good to know! The sounds sound fine to me - they are enjoyable - and I noticed the custom interior/cockpit sounds.

Not complaining at all about the cut to idle as it seemed like a realistic high altitude engine situation - I didn’t realize it was really a bug or error.

Again, most excellent work on this aircraft! It is a new favorite that will get a significant amount of use.

On that note, for any future press releases, I’d recommend mentioning those peculiarities around high altitude flight, as well as the sound situation, and if issuing news in the short term, the use of the F-111 weapons pack.

Congrats again on release!

Had a quick flight in VR. Really amazing, even the sprung cockpit facia vibrates as you hurtle down the runway. I’ve downloaded and installed the weapons patch but can’t select any weapons in the weapons menu/diagram.

I just tried it! The exterior and cockpit models are superb. Top texturing work! The liveries are really good too.

I hate to be that guy, but my computer really struggles in VR (RTX 3060). Not the newest GPU, I know… But be aware of your specs. In flat 2D it’s all super smooth.

It looks stunning anyway. I’ll keep it safe until I upgrade.

More testing. Dropping my VR resolution at 80% made a big difference, for those interested.
Loving how solid that cockpit looks. So many gorgeous details!

I have a question and a small stupid bug to report.

Question: Is there a heading mode we can use with the AP? How?

How does the fuel indicator work? I know I can press the “p” to sync it with the fuel but what are the T and P needles indicating and how do I know the external tank is empty?

Any help on how the radar works? Does it have terrain and weather modes? Any help about it would be appreciated.

Question or bug: Is the radio altimeter working?

Bug: If I use my hardware or bindings to change the flaps it works in the plane but the two little red buttons in the cockpit do not move.

Feature request: The COM and ADF channels sheets on the right of the cockpit are not populated if I fill radio stations or ADF channels from the menu, that would be a very cool feature to remember the frequencies stored without using the Radio menu.

This thing is fantastic.

The weapons patch works for me. Make sure you download the F-111 one from their website and put it into your Community folder.

I have some great R-40s hanging off the wings now, and some super tiny looking R-60s too!

What we REALLY need now is for the person working on the B-70 Valkyrie to finish that up, so we can see if the Foxbat really was fit for its intended purpose…

Manual is coming out next week. I just did a quick check of a few things though:

I match the T needle to my fuel total from the loadout pop-up, but I too would like to learn more. I think in the tutorial video they knew how much the drop tank carried and when their T got to that point they dropped it, but there wasn’t an explicit warning. Seems to me that it’s a matter of learning what the numbers are from the load manager and calculating mentally.

Will have to check the AP for heading mode. It has a stability mode where you can turn and then release pressure and it maintains heading, so maybe that’s it. Need to check on Sunday.

Radio Altimeter is working for me in terms of accurate needle movement based on altitude as well as bank angle of the aircraft, however, I do not see a way to set a bug for an alert function to…function.

Radar only seems to have an overlay terrain/map with traffic blips that pop-up (seems accurate to my AI traffic). No other modes seem to work.

Agreed on the flap buttons if using hardware.

I don’t think so, the Foxbat would not be able to catch the XB-70, it is a great plane but the Valkyrie is much faster albeit less manouverable. It is quite similar to the SR71, the Mig might eventually be able to intercept them but only in very specific fortuite scenarios. In the most normal cases a scrambling Mig 25 would need to climb to the Valkyrie altitude, accelerate and by then the XB-70 would have just turned away from it at MACH 3 and there would be no way to catch it.

The MiG-25 was initially conceived to counter the high flying Lockheed U-2, not the XB-70 (or even the SR-71, which the soviets didn’t know about when initial plans for an aircraft of the Foxbat’s type were made).

With that being said, we need to see the TopMach U-2 come out as a complementary product.

Is there something I’m missing with the fuel gauge? I can set it to the amount of fuel loaded but only the “T” needle moves, and “P” stays at 7 on the gauge but also the “T” needle won’t go lower than 7 so you have to guess or check the weight and balance to know how much fuel is left.

I sorted the weapons out it in the end. They just wouldn’t select in VR but would in 2D.
Now sorted in VR, just difficult to select the check boxes.

I noticed, flyng in the night, that there are some strange red flashing inside the engines. I noticed this with both afterburners on and off. If I shut off the engines, flashes stops. I also shut off the nav lights and the landing lights.

That is seen during the day too. I think it’s just the engine flame effect they used

Will the maker of this plane also make Russian bombers? Ie the Bear

Took it out for a spin this morning, wow it feels heavy  All that steel I guess!

Managed to find out I could supercruise by accidentally leaving the afterburners off  needed slight dive to get past 1.0, could run at 1.1 at full throttle with AB still off. Afterburners help significantly and I was able to easily hit 2.2 or so in mid-altitudes, haven’t really tested everything.

While it superficially is similar to the American F-15 in basic configuration, it’s a very different plane because of its weight and larger wingspan; though that comes with immense engine power.

Roll rate for instance is fairly slow, as you’ve got a lot of plane to move and relatively small ailerons. Maybe not a dogfighter, but it’d be great for shooting down U-2s

You really feel the size of the Mig 25 in VR. The nose extends out so far. It gets better every flight.

I did a first flight today from the Meiringen airfield in Switzerland. I just love the plane. I can’t describe it precisely but it feels “right”, if that makes any sense.
The taxi was a joy, the plane feels heavy and stable on the ground.
The takeoff was a bit challenging, since I couldn’t trigger the afterburners… I suppose this plane needs a special key for the AB to trigger ? I could takeoff with military power and the default fuel load, but the runway was barely long enough

I haven’t played with the autopilot yet. I just did a quick flight to land at an airport on the other side of the border, with visual approach. I think the plane might be just a bit too easy to land perhaps ? I landed using the brakechute and I had no problems in using the runway in Chambery airport… The real Mig25 with no fuel left in the tanks used all of the runway in Hakodate and ended in the grass. That runway was 2000m long at that time, same as Chambery today. What do you think ?

I agree 100%. In VR that cockpit is very impressive. The lighting is nice too !

The aircraft relies on the user binding “toggle afterburner” to a button, key, or switch to use the afterburners. Also ensure that the two afterburner switches are up on the left side of the cockpit.
